Taken King chapter 13 part 1

Fear not everyone! This series will continue! I turned and looked to the four guardians standing to my right. “Take him down!” I yelled, and the five of us unleashed a volley of rockets at the massive roaring knight. “Fynn, go! Now!” Flynt sprinted towards the towering hive god, sword in hand, as our barrage hit its mark. As the smoke cleared, there amongst the settling dust stood Crota. Flynt stopped dead in his tracks. The sword fell from his hands as the hunter turned on his heel and ran for his life, back the way he had come. The monster roared again, taking one massive step forward and slamming his sword into the ground. Flynt’s body was thrown into the air and slammed into a wall with a sickening crack. Crota thrust his blade skyward and bellowed as the scorching green sun burst forward in the sky above us. “FYNN!” I screamed as the lifeless corpse of my best friend fell to the ground. I sat up, heart racing and breathing heavy. The room was dark, only faintly lit by the dull glow of the city below. I rubbed my eyes and slowed my breathing. A dream, I thought, only a dream. But it wasn’t only a dream, and it was far worse than any nightmare. It was a memory. I let a ball of void light glow to life in my palm as I climbed out of bed and walked to the window. The City’s lights had dimmed since we had come back, surely it was early morning by now. Quietly so I wouldn’t wake Sierra, I grabbed a set of clothes from my closet and put them on. I carefully closed the dorm door behind me as I left in a navy blue t shirt, grey cargos, a dark grey jacket and running shoes. I nodded hello to the few guardians I passed on my way to the Tower’s exit. I took a deep breath in of fresh air as I left the building, and I started to run. I ran down streets and paths, slowly making my way towards the giant sphere hanging over the city. All of the thoughts that raced through my head, slowly drained as I ran. Eventually I reached the Gardens of Light, that sat beneath the Traveler. I stopped running, and instead walked through the maze of trees and paths that wound through the park. I came to a place that few guardians and even fewer civilians knew of. Directly beneath the Traveler, at the center of the Gardens of Light, there sat a lake, the water was always crystal clear and perfectly circular. I took off my shoes, shirt, and jacket, and left them by a giant old oak tree. I dove into the cool, clean water and swam out to the rocks in the center slowly, enjoying the sensation of water on my skin. In the center of the lake, several dozen meters from the shore, nine rocks jutted from the water, eight of them in a circle around one in the middle. I quickly climbed my way up the rock in the center and lay down on the flat top. I was completely isolated, cut off from everything and everyone. Just what I needed. All was silent but the sounds of crickets, birds and water on the rocks. This is where I came to ease the stress, to let it go with the wind, even if it was only for a while, it made a world of difference. For hours, I lay there gazing out to the stars, feeling the ever so gentle breeze cut through the comfortable summer night. It was the only sight that hadn’t changed since my lifetime. I stared up at the sky, at planets and constellations in the distance, with the Traveler looming high overhead. I breathed in the last breath of night air as the sun began to poke over the mountainous horizon with an orange glow. I stood and looked over the edge of the rock to watch as the water disappeared into the ground beneath, leaving behind a bowl of sand. That was the most phenomenal part about this place. It existed only at night. I glided down to the still wet sand and made my way back toward the oak tree on the shore, leaving no trace I was here but my rapidly fading footprints. I watched from here as the sun rose above the mountains and shone down upon the City. I leisurely walked back to the Tower, and stopped at small shop owned an old titan I knew on the way. I ordered a black coffee and some breakfast, and pulled some glimmer from my pocket to pay, but as usual he refused to let me. I smiled, laughed and asked how he was before I went on my way. Watching the City slowly come to life was unbelievable, off duty guardians from the Tower and civilians alike flooded the streets by eight. Coming back to the Tower, most guardians simply passed me by and went on with their business, while the few older ones nodded to me or waved. I said hello to Dawn who was in armour, heading down for training. When I finally returned to the dorm, I slid the door open to find Sierra gone. I picked up my holopad and turned it on to find a message from Cayde, “Lounge, ASAP. Be discreet.” I grabbed my jacket again and quickly made for the lounge, coffee in one hand and holopad in the other. Prologue/directory https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/139146382/0/0
