Ok. So i'm going to go on a bit of a rant here, please read all before you post.
The base Taken King game is good, the story is good, the new classes and items are good, the maps and environments are good.
What is not good, are the new game mechanics.
The original issue with destiny was that you had to sacrifice look and customisation in order for light and levels. Nobody liked this, everyone wanted it changed, ethric light was added and everybody was happy.
Now, this same issue has came back and is even worse than before. You can't even wear your class item that is intended as an aesthetic piece of gear unless it is of the highest light possible, or else you will be disadvantaged which is honestly really stupid.
The fact that your ghost, weapons and class items all depend on your level has completely ruined any possible chance of user customisation and I absolutely hate that.
In addition, all our year 1 gear and weapons are now useless. I can understand why some exotics and legendary guns with element effects bungie may want to get rid of in year 2, but to apply it to all legendary items again is stupid.
We should at least have the option to swap a year 2 legendary items stats with a year 1 items stats, so we keep the skin of the year 1 item but it has the year 2 items stats and light level. And add more year 2 exotics because having just 4-5 out of how many there are is not enough.
My next problem is how you have locked out players without the dlc from the main game. Anybody with the base destiny game no longer has access to vanguard/crucible/faction vendors, and can no longer play in pvp events like Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris. ToO was one of the main selling points of house of wolves along side of PoE, and so effectively we have been 'scammed' of half what we paid for that DLC as though technically yes we can still play them, with everybody else 6 levels higher you will not be able to compete at all.
Yes I understand the new dlc has new gear and levels, but to make those events almost exclusive to Taken King owners because of the light difference is totally not on.
What they should have done is kept ToO and IB as a 34 light max gamemode for non dlc owners, and then if you owned the taken king dlc you would only have access to a ToO and IB mode with other Taken king dlc owners.
I don't have Taken King yet, but did intend of getting it. I haven't got it yet because I have a lot of stuff on towards the end of the year and don't want to be distracted until I have finished it.
But when I do come back, i'm not so sure that I will want the DLC anymore unless some things are changed. As I said, the story itself is good but I want to be able to retain a character with its looks and customisation the way I want it to look, with the gear I have already earned. Because quite frankly I prefer it to the new year 2 gear. And that is one of the most important parts of the game for me.
Bump/post if you support, once again please read everything, I expect a few people will try tell me how i'm wrong about the ToO being locked out because they haven't read. We'll see.
EDIT
I forgot to mention in the post but non taken king owners can't even do nightfalls or heroic strikes
Again, yes I know dont have the dlc and those give dlc gear, but could they not have just allowed us to get the gear and play them, but we can only equip the gear if we buy the dlc and we can only play when it is on maps that arent new dlc maps instead of locking out the entire non raid gamemode of obtaining new gear.
Thanks to the taken king, any players who own the base game are limited almost exclusively to just story mode, patrol and the default pvp modes.
All content such as nightfalls, heroic strikes, ToO, buying gear from the vendors THAT WAS INCLUDED IN THE ORIGINAL GAME is now 'taken' from us pardon the pun.
It wouldn't be hard to change it to where we can still play the same old gamemodes like before the patch but just cant get/wear the new items. I cannot accept that bungie is incapable of doing this, therefore it can only be a very, very cheap and unethical way of trying to force us into buying the dlc
EDIT 2
Yes i know there is legendary item infusion but it is only for year 2 gear. I don't care about the year 2 gear because I don't like the visual look of it. I want to be able to give a year 2 items stats to a year 1 item so that I get a piece of gear that is effective in year 2 but has the same look as a year 1 item because I prefer the year 1 items visual look. Just look at my titan and hunter for gods sake, why would I want to give up those looks
