They removed the promotion where they allowed game sharing. The idea was that people could share the game with others as a way to try it before you buy it, except everyone tried it and fewer people bought it.

They did not say this, they did say that TTK would not be transferable from 360 to the XBone like TDB and HoW but not this. This came out of nowhere and contradicts the info in the details when we bought this expansion this morning.

Its still Microsoft policy, anything purchased on the Xbox Marketplace will create a local license and account license. Which allows up to 2 consoles to have the same game being played if both consoles contain a license. Bungie has to follow this policy if they're going to sell their products through Microsoft's Xbox Marketplace.

Not necessarily because each developer can choose how their content is distributed via DRM. They can set the media usage rights to just the accoutnt that is owner of the content, and not every account that logs onto that console. The greater issue here is DRM, and how it relates to digital content. We saw this a decade ago in the forms of product keys that prevented people from buying a single copy of a disc and then sharing that disc with multiple people. Now that most content is digitally downloaded, and no longer on a physical disc developers have looked to DRM as the new "product keys" to prevent unauthorized distribution of their content. Game sharing is the exact opposite of this, and each developer has to make the choice as to whether or not their content will be DRM or DRM free. Many times you will see new games DRM free to allow people to share it with others. (try it before you buy it) Then later content is DRM because people have already made up their mind on if they like playing that franchise or not.

The fact that game sharing exists between two consoles on Xbox 360 for the Digital Destiny game and the Digital Expansion Pass means that Bungie had accepted and implemented Microsoft's content license rules. The fact that game sharing is no longer working for The Taken King is either an overlooked error, or a decision made by bungie to discontinue Microsoft's license rule. There was no change mentioned, and purchases were done same as before. It's only after the purchase that you realise game sharing is not working, therefore it is almost like they misled us, as we logically expected the deal they've been making ever since destiny began (game sharing). Nothing can be really said on the matter until bungie responds clearly to this situation, so there is no point disputing about whether or not bungie changed their rules, as it could have just been an error they haven't acknowledged yet.
he fact that game sharing is no longer working for The Taken King is either an overlooked error, or a decision made by bungie to discontinue Microsoft's license rule.
I agree, that's what i meant above when I said that Bungie removed the option to game share.
There was no change mentioned, and purchases were done same as before. It's only after the purchase that you realise game sharing is not working, therefore it is almost like they misled us, as we logically expected the deal they've been making ever since destiny began (game sharing).
I have to disagree with this. https://www.destinythegame.com/taken-king/wheretobuy Go to the digital download(because that's where everyone is having the issues) If you look at the all caps text in bold that you cannot miss:
DIGITAL DOWNLOAD FOR GUARDIANS THAT OWN DESTINY AND BOTH EXPANSIONS
The key word is own, not played. It says very clearly before you even select a console let alone a retailer that the digital download for $40 is for people that own it. Ownership in this case is tied to the gamertag/account that purchased Destiny and the two previous expansions. I don't think Bungie could be any more clear. If people chose not the read whats in all caps and bold and purchased the wrong edition that's really on them, not Bungie. If there is a way to make it possible(which I don't know if there is), the retailers should allow people to delete the digital download edition and be credited with the $40 provided they then pay $20 more and get the Legendary edition which would make them whole. That would solve this issue. People who still disagree with Bungie's DRM decision can choose to speak with their wallets and not purchase any more iterations of Destiny. People who want to legally own their own version of Destiny and all it's expansions now have a way to do that at a cost that is more than 50% less than what people who paid for things correctly spent. That's goes way beyond fair, and is really another issue altogether.

So they are money whoring. Any other company allows you to game share. This company already has a bad rep.

False, DRM has been in existence for quite some time. A decade ago you saw it with product keys attached to game discs. Nowadays since many games are downloaded digitally instead of physical copies, they use DRM via the system license.

Was there ever a warning of this being in use? If they had told to community ahead of time, I would've just never bought it, but now my brother who just got his ps3 is playing it but i'm not

https://www.destinythegame.com/taken-king/wheretobuy Right there in bold and all caps. before you could even select the platform or retailer it tells you who the digital download is for.

So if I were to do a Ps3 on Ps3, still wouldnt work would it? Im guessing the obvious answer being yes since I haven't gotten it through lol
-
I can't tell you that because I'm on Xbox
-
Congrats bungie look what you have made a complete forum with THOUSANDS of user complaining and you the company haven't given us ONE answer yet. This is not right and I'm not hating on Ps4/3 user but why does it seem to work for them? Why can they get it on all there accounts but yet Xbox 360 users can't? I honestly am tired of waiting for answers I want them now. I haven't seen one answer yet...

We (or I) can't get it to work on multiple accounts on Ps4
