Official Feedback on The Taken King - The Story

The one about the story. Better story has been a big request from the community since Destiny first launched last year. Many of you have gotten through the initial story missions. There are still some untold elements in the end game, but what are your thoughts on the story so far. What do you like, what do you dislike? What do you think about the characters, are they more interesting than in the past? Did you enjoy the new cut scenes? Let us know what you think.

  • I haven't finished the story yet, but a couple things jump out at me. 1. There was more emotion in the opening scene for ttk than most, if not all, of the year one content. And the cut scenes really help with the flow and actually fit with what is taking place. 2. A couple of mission I thought were short, but then the game was like, "no, fight your way out". I appreciate that. As someone already mentioned, the speakers roles should be revised, becuase well, he doesn't do much speaking. I'll come back when I've finished the story.

    • Definitely keep it up with a story telling. The taken King thus far is leagues ahead of the original story in terms of depth, character development, and overall epicness. Just that very first mission on Phobos had my hands sweating.

        While I thought it was a lot more immersive in comparison to the original, I would have liked it a lot more if we could actually converse with the NPCs. The giant walls of text I found to be kind of lazy. Instead, we should have had conversation options that while not necessarily changing anything, could at least prompt further understanding of the mission. i,e player choice. If I'm going to say yes to Cayde, let me personalize it with a few different options that would prompt different, but interesting exposition, etc. Secondly, the fact that NO ONE acknowledges my race (like the queen), is like, uh... you know I'm an Awoken too, right? Lastly, even with the sidequests, the main story was way too short. Ps. I'm disappointed that you guys like, totally forgot about the Exo Stranger.

        • I really enjoyed it, particularly how well the characters played off eachother and were more alive. I would add more interaction between our guardians though, my hunter had all of two lines, and pretty much let ghost do all the talking. I'd like to see more personality from our player characters.

          • STORY??!!.... Its so much better, A LOT BETTER... Engaging, immersive, humorous, the characters have actual personality and feel alive. You guys are on the right track for story. Do not take away the main characters voice, the cutscene of you flying Eris Morns ship into Dreadnaught the facial expresions of the Guardian (and not a voice) made it feel like a mute... Bring marks back into public events. I have no reason to do public events for motes.... Let Exotic quests have choices of PvP or PvE. I will never have an exotic sword or Chaperone. I would rather kill 500 enemies in Heroic/Nightfall then 25 in crucible. Some of us don't like crucible. Leave Strike quests on the side, some people just want to experience the story without having to run strikes.

          • [b]The Good[/b] Great cinematics, good storyline, difficult enemies, encounters, level design, gameplay. [b]The Bad[/b] Grenade and melee cooldown seems slower even with the same gear I used to have, weapon perks aren't like they used to be (field scout perk), no matchmaking for bigger events, I can't use guns that I like or gear that I like because I can't level it up to the damage I want, the last thing except with armor, gameplay. I know I said gameplay was good but it's also bad, here's why: I didn't spend 40 bucks for a little over 4 hours of gameplay. I spent 20 bucks just last week for a game on the PS4 and I'm still working on it. Just keep in mind for Destiny 2 that people want at least a couple days of story.

          • Pure epic in digital form. Gold. Just. Wow. So much awesome. Now to the comets sentences. A few bugs. To be expected. The raid is. Well. Intense. Lol. Makes archon look like a chump. And the Grimoire. I took a few hours trying to sleep an read the whole book of sorrows cards. To anyone who has not done this. Do so. Now. It's. Just. I do not envy the writer However it's beautiful.

            • I really liked where the main character had all of his riches stolen and locked behind a metal gate until he married some ugly princess. I liked the part when bungivision took all of our pre-bought dlc and locked it out until we buy the taken king expansion.

            • I'm definately enjoying the diversity of the mission quests. The stealth mission was interesting. I actually had a lot of fun with the Fallen SABER strike as at one point me and my matchmafe team didn't know how to progress forward. So at one point we were running back and forth bringing our ghosts out then once someone found the way to go down he pointed and we hurried on over. I like it because we had to figure out kinda where to go. Quite a break in what was done before in regards to encounters.

            • I liked how the new story had a good general flow toward the objective of stopping oryx. I didn't like how it seemed like you killed oryx at the end. Felt like a game over screen, now go grind gear. I don't exactly know what happened to oryx, so the game after completing that mission feels a little off.

              Ok. So lets get going, [b]Main campaign[/b] It's great. Cayde-6 is a great character. I love the banter between him and Eris. I always though Eris was a little over the top anyway, so he accurately reflects my sentiments. The story actually HAS content. It's interesting. It's not a whole bunch of go here, kill this, come back BS. The game really seems to open up with lots of things to do after the story is over. Really liking the options, there is not shortage of things to do in destiny. One week in, and i haven't been able to touch my other characters, been so busy with just one. That's the good. The bad is a short list. Some of the new exotic quests are a painful grind. Currently working on the Dead Orbit exotic cloak. Had the quest for days now and stuck on 10 crucible wins. I have 5, but the sheer nature of crucible and the collective ignorance of people that don't play the objective in objective based game modes makes this part a pain in the ass. Every time i hear "The Enemy has the spark" i get pissed. I was there trying to get it, and everyone else on my team is running around and play team death match. Pretty lame. Can't wait till this is over. Then I probably have to do this 2 more times. Over all, the new content is really good. Some quests are too grindy, and depend too much on others to complete, but over all, I'm very happy.

Let us know what you think.[/quote] I must say TTK is to expensive. I thought there is more... But I must say, I am really disappointed. Because the max on your level is 40 and then what are you doing now? You earn again like before light to be better... And now a really non-sense thing, the progressbar After you reached lvl.40. If you grow up normally one Level, you get there the funny thing.... "NOTHING". So now there is the problem again. And an other thing, the legendary marks are a good system. But I must say, I was happier about the farming of the marks in PvP and Strike. Because you could earn more and you get them easier. You have bought a destiny dlc for 40,- Like dlc 1&2 together and then you have nothing more important to do like before. I must really say it's bad. So I understand now, why many people say, I wouldn't like to play destiny anymore. The things I wish for the next part and many maybe too. - Higher "normal" Level as maybe for the next part lvl.60 / set it maybe to lvl. 80 or higher - A more important role for the "glimmer" - To gain more legendary marks as example if you kill an boss, or you solved an event like before. It mustn't be many, but now is the problem you play destiny maybe one Day or two Day each week and then It's finish, you can't earn more. - Integrate something like the paragon system in Diablo 3. That you can put with skill points your stats higher if you have reached the maximum level. - An better PvP Balance: If I join the PvP as a player on lvl.36 with light 150. I will come only in a group with the same light. Or an easier thing put all players on the same lvl. and light, that a Player can only win with the own Player skills. - If you play for KDZ or the others, if you wear clothes of them, that you earn again some points for them or if you do for them some missions. - Bring Funny events, like the helloween event back. - More Character classes and more character space As last: "there will come many years of destiny, so bring the interest back. I believe on the ideas of Bungie with Destiny. If you are have not so much ideas what you can bring to destiny. Look to the games: "Diablo 3, Guild Wars 2." Thought about these games and why these games earn so much interest if you play them.

              • TTK story was an improvement for sure IMO. But this improvement only extends to TTK story. It still leaves a lot of loopholes from the original story. No meaning behind the guardians, no exo stranger, no awoken, no exo, ect, etc. Still too many "how's" and "why's" still floating around. Why build a house on a sub par foundation? Recap: TTK story good. Vanilla not so much.

              • Noted Eris saying Oryx was defeated, not killed by me. Then the Warlock Vangaurd says Oryx is dead. Some think this means Oryx will return, and Vanguard does not get the truth that Eris knows (being a mental case). Is confusing. Or a scripting error. I'm wondering if the Queen teleported before her ship was destroyed ( just as I did on first trip to Dreadnaught). Whatever, I hope you resolve these story lines in TTK and not the next edition. Still need story answers from the Speaker and the Traveller. I am generally confused as to why Oryx was defeated so early and now must do quests to get more story content.

              • Loved the story, but the cut scenes where on tge limited side, loved cay the the hunter, shame it was like only a handle of scenes in total. Definitely a step invite right direction. Also love the implementation of not just shoot run and kill, we had more objectives. It's a good start, more think on that needs to be done but the more action and good ideas executed properly the better the experience. More puzzles, more action, more scenes. The strikes are a vast improvement, the sunless cell! Excellent boss fight, the rest are great too. Imagination is key to crafting these strikes. Oryx fight was great to, more of those places, Shane it didn't go on for longer. Six man patrols would be nice. Like the new additions to the dreadnought to keep it alive, and other patrols, just missing tgat six man option. Btw the dreadnought isn't that big!!? I'm sure you'll get there, keep at it, it's a vast improvement just don't take away our old guns again, natural progression not forced lads!! Btw I'm still holding onto my gear just FYI.

              • Loved the story... Only dislike the Boolean Gemini needing rank 3 queens with minimal bounties a day.... It's ridiculous that I've done all the quests but now need to get queens wrath up to rank 3

              • Thus far without playing all the content. It's Going in the right direction. Like the new loot system. Story is there, not amazing but at least an effort was put in. The little quest and missions on the dreadnought are amazing. Secret loot here and there. Exploring is a lot of fun. Wish earlier in game was that exciting. The fusion system allows new variation for character appearance, which is nice. Also enjoy the third person action with the swords. Third person mode should be a thing, cause if you enjoy how your character looks why not?

                My thoughts on this is, bungie needs to go back and look at the Halo campaigns. The lack of quest in Destiny, well missions as you call them are way to short. You get started and just when you start to think this might be interesting, the mission is over. If i have to spend time looking for a ghost in your story missions. This means that im doing it and lm lying to myself that the missions were worth doing. Now, going back to Halo, thats looking at the series. The missions kept your interest, making you feel the time spent in them was well worth it that you would and did go back to see if there was anything you missed. Or you went back because it was fun and fun to explore each mission coming up with new ways to do each mission. Or just play around in the vehicles to see how far you can get away with them in different ways. Like using one as a ramp to get to cross certain areas or seeing where the warthog could climb and eplore the area. Halo was a game that you wanted to come back to and redo the missions. Destiny, well not much i can say about the missions other then what i said.

Let us know what you think.[/quote] • Big improvement on spinning the tale. • The animated graphic narrations e.g., sub-quest intros...a nice touch. Integrating the entire grimoire into the game...in same fashion, as a Guardian Handbook. • The characters now have personalities...yay! • What is up with The Speaker? Given his lack of dialogue thus far...ya'll might wanna re-think his title. Overall, moving in the right direction.

                  This was WAY better than the original story the character interaction was great also loved the cut scenes, I for one love Nathan's voice acting, Nolan was also fantastic ( I am not gonna bash him because some people who didn't like that one line in the whole game "we awoken the hive" seriously community? ). One improvement I would like to see would be even more story depth go deeper into the story next time and by that I don't necessarily mean longer cut scenes but just let us know "why" these things are the way they are if you don't convey your story properly people are gonna get confused and not know what the heck is going on (i am referring to vanilla destiny here not the expansion you do know why oryx is coming for you you killed his son makes since... no confusion there) but EVERYTHING else you really don't know why you are doing what you are doing..... who is the traveler whats the story of the vex the fallen the cabal Ect. Ect. Ect. What is the relationship between the darkness and the traveler what has anything have to do with anything??? These are questions that need answers.

                • the story is looking great and its about time, but everyone is complaining about the paywall being a problem i went through it by miles and got punished for my loyalty here is the original forum post explaining it all https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/154285243/0/0 sounds minor but its the principle of it all I've emailed GAME UK, and ACTIVISION about this and only had automated responses None of this exists if you don't make profit so if this is the level of service i get i will not spend any more cash on destiny And from my level of commitment i would think you would want to keep customers like me happy what do you advise cosmo (sorry if this is in the wrong section)

                • For 40$ i thought it was included directly into the game (LFG ). Remember we have a real life and most people don't like and don't have a time to waste on LFG. Please add it into the game ,it deserves for 40 $.
