Quick disclaimer I made this thread last week or so. Light is 500% more important than level so just take all instances of "level 41" and replace it with "a light level that is imposible to achieve until the next expansion" i.e. crota, skolas. It looks like 290 is nowhere near the cap as I have a 300 weapon so hopefully hard mode is better puzzles and challenges instead of simply "this is the highest you can go and hard mode is 20 light over that"
Skolas is a monument to all your sins of artificial difficulty and tedious boss fights. My sample is biased but I haven't met someone who believes that the fight is fun from start to finish. It may start out fun and it may be exciting when you finally kill him, but the lengthy amount of time inbetween where you're killing adds, whittling down his health, move sides, kill adds, deal a little damage, move sides, kill adds etc etc is painfully boring and god help you if you wipe halfway through because that's another 30 minutes of doing the same thing over and over.
I can guarantee that two weeks from now when we can be on level with the adds the fight will take half the time and actually be enjoyable (albeit for rewards that are useless in year 2 but that's a different argument)
Crota's end made this mistake but you never really fought adds in the boss fight. Skolas made this mistake.King's Fall cannot make this mistake.
I'm hoping that with the separation of level from light that this won't happen, that this will be more of a journey of getting on Oryx's level and feeling the satisfaction that we felt when we first beat Atheon as a level 30 after suffering so long as a 29. However if the light recommendation is like 10 or 20 points above the cap and "just out of reach" and it takes as long as skolas does now, the rewards had better be incredible or most players will play it a couple of times and then feel nauseous thinking about playing it again.
Difficulty is AI and not making them predictable. Difficulty is gimmicks and special attacks and puzzle solving. Difficulty is the terrain and strategic add placements that don't completely distract from the fight and are part of the puzzle. Difficulty may be that they do more damage to you but you're going to need to make your one hit omega thrall or whatever seem different enough from the level 4 thrall I kill by yawning to warrant the extra damage.
Difficulty is not just "their numbers are higher than your numbers and there's nothing you can do about it until next dlc."
Oh and I know Kings Fall is a raid and while we shouldn't have to ask this, will there be checkpoints? Because that was also the worst part of skolas.

7 RepliesI think that the heroic version of King's Fall being lv42 is very unfair and it hurts the casual players even more. That's means that Bungie made King's Fall an MLG only Raid because it is projected to be too hard for ordinary players to complete successfully. You can fix this by making the hardest activities level 40 with a light range of 180 - 250.
