before your level was determined by your light. now your level and light level are seperate. your level is no longer pertinent aside from the "can't equip until level 40". light levels purpose is just the same as before but now it's less "confusing" because it is no longer behind a numbered level.
the reason it's now worse is because it still imposes the same restrictions as before and has added new ones. before everyone looked the same because light was attached to gear this hasn't changed. however now we have infuse so if you find something you like to wear you can feed it other gear to level it up.
The problem? I don't see infuse on any of my class items. they made it this big thing that we wouldn't have to wear a faction item to gain faction cred that's great but class items now contribute to defense and without infuse a huge swath of my coveted class items are detrimental to my combat effectiveness. my hunter has the cloak of the sixth reign, and as far as i know you cant get that cloak anymore. I'll never wear it again. Now they could install infuse in class items (and I think they will) but right now I'm irritated with this lack of polish. The Bungie/Activision/Destiny centipede has been making these kind of small errors since things have started and it's just bull.
edit #1: apologies my op was poorly worded my main concern was with year one class items many have mentioned their year two class items have infuse which is perfect. but my beef was that many unique year one class items are being discarded.

All ttk items will have the infuse option. It seems restricting now because we are still in the weird 2.0 limbo week before Oryx drops by. Im sure there will be pleanty of new gear and drops to customize our guardians to not only kick ass...but look good while doing it.
-
From what I heard there will be a year two cloak of sixth reign from petra
-
Year one class items don't have infuse, but I have 2 marksbondscapes on my characters that have infuse
-
I agree with this. My strongest armors are my ascended iron banner gear. Except for my iron banner Titan mark. I had to grind to buy that much harder than I did for any year one speaker class items. Yet my iron banner is only worth 30 whereas my speaker (and even the freebie Eris one) offer 130. I've always used class items to accentuate my look. Now I have to stick with whatever is the strongest.. This was a terrible idea.
-
Agreed. I really hate how I have to use a specific ghost because I have a skin that I really like .-. Also mad that I have to use a certain class item, I atleast wanted this to be customizable, but I guess not :/
-
Agreed. My favorite class item is the ghost angel cloak equipped on my hunter. Sadly it is only 140 armor with no way as of now to infuse it to a higher level. Oh well, I still plan on rocking it... Bungie be damned.
-
I have infuse on my level 40 class items that I got from my class quests. The old stuff probably doesn't have it but I'm guessing we can get TTK versions of those class items.
-
Perhaps we should wait for the release of the TTK before claiming how much worse the light level is, hm?
-
Agreed

Edited by HalfY: 9/14/2015 8:31:17 AMYou've raised one my biggest concerns about this game - Bungie still doesnt properly know how to run this game After every dlc so far the way to reach max has changed. TDB - introduction of radiant shards, HoW - introduction of ascending. Now with TTK - brand new light system, infusion, complete change to materials/marks, etc, etc You can see why so many people think we have been playing a beta for the last year.
-
Wait until after tomorrow to really complain. This is certainly a week in limbo.
-
Took me 10Hrs to get my warlock to max level and another 6 to farm 2 legendary gear to complete my set ( had a exotic and legendary before creation)....yeah it's pretty messed up now
-
Ahaha so your body and title are totally different. It's waaaay better than before but you want to keep your class item. Ok we get it. Thanks for the 1000th thread on this issue.
-
Its basically using the WoW item level system for the light system. Its simple and effective.

Edited by monkyken: 9/14/2015 10:01:07 AMCheck out the new class items, they have infusion and there are new 2.0 versions of some of the olds ones. I like the new light level system, but I don't think it should have been applied to the class item.Class items should have just gained discipline/strength ect contributions so they had a bonus to wearing a good one but not one that would affect your ability to do anything.
-
Agreed. Bump
-
I actually got the cloak of the sixth reign right after 2.0 dropped and it has 260 defense but requires level 40
-
Edited by Sas: 9/14/2015 10:02:13 AMWhy won't you wear it again? Light will only be particularly relevant in end game content.
-
Here's one of the class items I've already picked up (Queens Wrath upgrade package) and note the wording here when you hover over "Infuse". So it requires a "more powerful" item to infuse it. That means another, more powerful year 2 item. Not that you can pour anything from year one into it to upgrade it. So I think it's going to be a while before anyone starts infusing things anyway as you are going to need to pick up a few new items. Then if you like the look of a 250 defense but also have a 270 defense item then you can presumably sacrifice the 270 to upgrade the 250 (wonder if that then brings it all the way to 270 or just a step in that direction?).
-
Infusing is literally right on the new class items. Are you blind. The speaker will also be selling the old class items as a year 2 ver
-
I've been seeing people getting a year 2 version of the sixth reign from leveling up queen's wrath, so all is not lost my friend.
-
I got a level 40 cloak of the sixth reign yesterday mate! You need to level up Queens Wrath. Go to the Vanguard at the tower and there's a kiosk to the right. Restart the House of Wolves quests, it's a pain doing the whole HOW storyline again but it gives you all drops again, if Petra levels up you'll get the cloak in a package.

-
that's what I was thinking. everything is based on light now. what is the point of being a certain level other than equipping armor with hihger light? eventually everyone will be 40 anyway.
-
I'm reserving judgment until release. I'm guessing that after release the option to infuse will come up.
