34 = 170
36 = 180 (Speaker's 180 ghosts require level 36)
38 = 190
40 = 200
Are we to presume that we need 200 light to have a decent chance with level 40 missions and enemies?
EDIT: From what I can tell different items will have different level requirements. In the Twitch stream, a level 34 can wear 190 defense gear, but you need to be level 36 to use a 180 ghost.... strange indeed. I also saw a level 37 required for 210 gear... and of course the max level 40 will get you 280 gear. I'm going to assume 240 is level 38... 260 is level 39.
Sorry, I may be confusing attack/defense with light. Still would love to know then how our light related to enemy levels.

1 ReplyLight lvl is the average of all pieces equipped, weapons, armor, class items n ghost.

1 ReplySeems like guardian level only exists to control what can/ can't ve equipped, and light level is the level that actuallg matters. So guardian level (1-40) really only exists to control how fast you actually progress.

30 RepliesI have to be completely honest here. I have read a lot about it but I don't get the light level system now, AT ALL So ok, we can now level up again using XP. GREAT! I love that. So we level up until 40. But what actually changes with that? Base stats? Or just equipment requirements? Is a level 40 with light level 170 stronger than a 34 with light level 170? And if not, why are we even leveling up in the first place? So light is responsible for the damage you make and the damage you take? And where is the difference to before...? I am not trying to be an ass, I really don't quite understand the difference between levels and light levels now... Also I have one critique about the whole thing, I don't like that ghost shells and class items now have stats. I would have liked them to be cosmetic. One thing I loved about the class items were that you could just pick whatever you wanted. Now you gotta pick what ever has good stats. A step backwards, too bad.

This is just speculation but the warlock bond i got from the quest ( i only turned one in before i realized i needed to wait till taken king comes out). Says that is requires lvl 40 but has a light level of 220 so who knows lol

My guess is that the actual rating of the piece is its light level. For example, equipment at 170 will give you light 170 providing you equip all 170 gear. I'm thinking that in TTK the first few pieces of gear we'll get will be for level 25+ with levels of about 180 light and we'll go from there. Max light will probably be around the 350 mark, that's just my assumption however.

Highest attack/defence I've seen has been 310 on the adept Trials weapons.
-
Theres no point of changing stuff like they did.. We equip raid armours with one exotics and boom you achieved the highest light possible.
-
The light system is good but bull crap in the sense that equipping high attack weapons is pointless unless you have the armor of equal stats otherwise it's the same as using a weaker weapon so in turn it makes no sense to have any attack values being that light is the only constant that determines your actual damage output along with defence

1 ReplyIt really doesn't seem any different from before to me. We still need light to compete high level objectives. Instead of "level 34 only! Requests, we will now see "only light level 250+ welcome" restrictions for groups. If anything, it comes off more as an illusion to bring the community more together than an actual change. My other point, I don't care for weapons adding to light rating. You'll almost be forced to use certain weapons, where now we can switch to what we feel is most suited for the situation. I can see lots of "I really need to use the vex because of the solar damage, but my light level drops when I do!!!" Type people. It could potentially put a wrench in certain groups.

I have a Warlock bond that is 260. I suspect that 170 is closer to level 17. If you look at the Eris missions, they used to open up at level 24 and now if you try to select hard difficulty it says 240 is required which would correspond to level 24. Just my theory.

10 RepliesEdited by SrgtSilver: 9/14/2015 1:44:55 PMActually the armor we have now is Level 20 as that was what the leveling system went up to. And the speaker only SELLS 180 ghosts. That doesn't mean you can equip higher light level ghosts. And max light I've seen is 310.

Edited by Cool-Caution: 9/14/2015 1:53:21 PMif you check the armoury it shows Exotics E.G lvl 40 Chaos Cloak 290 defence i am guessing upgrading items mate puch these items to 300. lvl 40 Tlaloc 280 attack lvl 40 Ace of Spades 280 attack again guessing upgrading these weapons will push them to 300

4 RepliesTbh I think the new system is way worse
-
4 RepliesThe wolves on Mars are 260 and the taken on earth are 220. The max weapon attack is 280 though, I think?? (Don't quote me on that)
-
Has to be higher than 240 the story missions that day impossible say light level 240
-
280-300 is likely gonna be the recommended lvl for the raid. We do have weapons with attack as high as 310
-
Unless light gets a patch or is not fully implemented yet, it is a pointless stat. I have equipped all rookie armor with defense 5 and used my normal 160 weapon for a total of around 50 light while playing poe and strikes. It made no difference that I could tell. It still felt like I was still wearing full legendary gear. My damage taken/given saw no difference. That may change when ttk drops, idk.

Edited by Panda: 9/14/2015 2:43:49 AMThe way the new system works Level is level It unlocks the gear you can wear. Light level is different It works in combination with the gear you own You accumulate light through the individual weapons and armour pieces Light effects both your weapons total damage and the defensive capabilities. Example: you're currently a level 34 warlock If you wear a light level 170 primary, seconday and heavy With light level 170 armour pieces Plus a bond that is 170 And have a ghost that is 170 You'll be level 34 light level 170 That means you're dealing and taking damage at your optimum capabilities. Hope that helps

Guys! I had a vision! 34=170 170/34=5 5-2=3, 2 meaning the second year of destiny A triangle has 3 sides The illuminati triage also has 3 sides Therefore Bungie is the illuminati They want us grinding our lives away so they can sell us red Bull so they can have wings and take over the world! #illumibungie

310 is max Light
-
Not entirely correct. You can get the experience to get to level 34 without having gear to get to 169 light. (Need those exotic class items and ascended weapons to get to 170 I believe) My Titan is 34, but has rare chest. Not maxed Ruin wings and some 160 non-ascended weapons from my vault. I think she's 155-159 best case.

8 Replies240 is max light level yes?
-
171 with the right setup
-
6 Replieslv 34 does not = 170 light. all 170 light items = 170 light
-
No because weapons and armor will exceed 280
