Well, I don't think the people that were contacted to join had to pay but the small group that initially started it did. I agree it's stupid, the article actually pointed out that people need to learn that in these situations to always get lawyers that you only pay if you win which from what I've read is a majority. This also happened quite a few years ago so it could've been a different environment then.
