what makes halo SO addicting???
It's been 2 years and I still can't put the game down
Bungie must be pulling some subliminal messages in game
What makes this game so damn addicting

Infinite map making and first person shooter at its best. Heck, it's the most played Xbox Live game and theres no reason to contradict why when you enjoy the thrill of shooting someone virtually in the face. Sorry about the length. = ]

Because its different. Simple yet Challenging. Easy to play, yet hard to master. Or any number of other paradoxes. It's probably the Poker of Video Games.

It's fun, it's fast paced, and easy to memorize. It's also immensly epic, and insanely silly.

Balance. In Halo 3, everything is well balanced, no weapon completely dominates, and no weapon is useless, same with vehicles. The "golden triangle" (guns, grenades, melee) works very well, with each being effective in certain circumstances. Halo also has the best vehicular combat, because even tanks have to be afraid of infantry. Also, not many of the weapons kill extremely quickly, and the ones that do are harder to use. In games like CoD and Rainbow 6, all of the guns are extremely effective, and there isn't much difference between them. In Halo, only some melees and sniper shots are one hit kills, and only tank, gauss hogs, lasers, and sticky grenades are one hit kills anywhere on the body.

It really is a good question. I think that the game is actually only a small part of the game's success. Another big part is the community in general. I'm not sure about other companies, but Bungie seems to be all about its community. The multiplayer is amazing, the campaign is amazing, the graphics are amazing, and so on, but the icing on the Halo cake is its community.

I like custom content, its what really sells me on a game, and with Halo, that's easily achievable. Almost anything is possible, I love how every bit of the game can change in your favor, and make the most epic of WTF moments.

Part of what makes a great game is the ability to make people want to play it over and over and over again which they have obviously done since it's at the top of the Xbox live play list again. Halo = Great game.
