1 ReplyWill you have no eyes, or will they just break down internally and stop working?
-
FWIW, 95% of your vision is in your brain. When electronic retinae become practical, people who grew up with eyesight will be able to utilise them immediately, and people who grew up blind will never attain anything close to normal vision. See, for instance, the work in the seventies by Richard L. Gregory, wherein he worked with a man who'd grown up with fully-occluding cataracts, and it was expected that implanting a pair of the newly-perfected artificial lenses would give him eyesight, and therefore vision. Turns out it only gave him eyesight, and he had to start from scratch, with the visual abilities of a newborn, and the mental plasticity of an old man. He never did develop vision that would be considered normal. Conversely, sighted TV presenters can learn to see better than would be considered "visually-impaired" using a webcam that activates an electrode array on their back or their tongue. In the course of an afternoon.

1 ReplyI would travel the world before I went blind if I were you

3 RepliesSorry to hear that. My most recent visit to an eye doctor said that my optic nerve or whatever it is in the back of my eye is slowly expanding. They don't know if it will keep expanding, or if it will stop, but it could wind up with my vision becoming heavily impaired
-
1 ReplyHopefully technology will be advanced enough to replace your eyes at an affordable cost to turn you into an eyeborg. I have a similar problem with my eyes where they don't have any pigmentation in my retinas, and I'm at a high risk of going blind if I'm exposed to too many UV rays, so I can sympathize.

We already have rudementary technology to help the blind see somewhat, in 15 years I'm sure you'll be fine.
-
Didn't they make some glasses you blind people can wear so they can see? I don't think it was full vision yet but it maybe it won't be AS bad as you think. 15 years is longer then you think and science is improving every day. I'm with those other people and say go out there and see all you can see.
