The Field Scout Nerf, a dumb answer to a question no one was asking

Dear Bungie, I'm betting one of the guys who wears a tie decided this would be a quick and easy way to encourage people to use the new 2.0 guns. "It's simple and brilliant," I'll bet he said. "Just because no one dislikes Field Scout, no one complains about Field Scout, and no one wants to change Field Scout, and just because it is the only way for many, many weapons to be usable at all, that doesn't mean we can't neuter it in a thinly-veiled effort to manipulate the herd!" I'm betting that more than one programmer told him it was a bad idea... "We won't even have the 2.0 weapons available for them," they cried. "All it will do is render many of their weapons useless, and we won't even be providing a new alternative for them to try! It's sure to infuriate the players!" But, the man with the tie decided it would be fine. So for the guy with the tie, I have a couple of suggestions: 1) The next time you want to p!$$ everyone off, just change all the prior year's guns to breech-loaders and be done with it. Better yet, make them all into muskets, even the Gjallerhorn. Or make it so a player is poisoned whenever they have one equipped. Or make each shot cost 100 glimmer. Get creative when you patronize us. Also, and I can't emphasize this part enough... 2) Go fornicate yourself with a rusty railroad spike.

    I posted this info in some random topic already but since this one keeps floating I suppose it's relevant here. After hearing the common gripe I went and tested Field Scout for myself. These are the results. --- [b]Field Scout: Analysis[/b] Subject weapon: Mida Multi-tool Field Scout: Off Scout Ammo+ Chest: none Scout Ammo+ Boots: none Maximum payload: 246 rounds [i](*base)[/i] Field Scout: On Scout Ammo+ Chest: none Scout Ammo+ Boots: none Maximum payload: 328 rounds (+82 /base) Field Scout: Off Scout Ammo+ Chest: active Scout Ammo+ Boots: none Maximum payload: 287 rounds (+41 /base) Field Scout: Off Scout Ammo+ Chest: active Scout Ammo+ Boots: active Maximum payload: 328 rounds (+82 /base) Field Scout: On Scout Ammo+ Chest: active Scout Ammo+ Boots: active Maximum payload: 328 rounds (+82 /base) What this means is that Field Scout now fully replaces all armor based Ammo+ perks pertaining to the relative weapon type. However it no longer stacks with armor perks, instead it boosts ammo capacity to the maximum limit regardless of armor perks. And of course, it no longer increases magazine capacity. That job is for Casket Mag. So Field Scout does work, just not in the same way it used to. Hope this sorts out any questions about it being broken.

      Bungie stated the "weapon stats" would be "reduced", NOT "removed". What they did to field scout was remove it as an actual weapon stat. Armor ALREADY increases scout rifle reserve ammo ON scout rifles. To have field scout turned into a reserve ammo perk, you've made ALL ARMOR that increases scout rifle ammo in reserve COMPLETELY USELESS, on top of the fact you lied about adjusting the stat and removed it from being a stat on weapons entirely.       • The 2.0 weapons nerf is sickening. The nerf was underhanded, cruel, and counter to the ethos of becoming legend. I don't want the game to become less fun every time a DLC drops. Now looks like as good a time as any to say goodbye to "Destiny". I have a lot of good friends here, so I'm hoping Bungie will fix this.

        • F***ing bump.. what in the actual f***, Bungie? My Spear is garbage now... you could have at least left it with a +2 round mag bonus, but what the hell is the explanation for eliminating Field Scout completely? You left me with one addition round in my freaking reserve ammo. That's like leaving a penny for a tip. If you're going to tip shitty, that's how you do it! You tipped us a penny Bungie... typical.

        • I'm pretty upset with my jolders hammer I rerolled that thing for a week to get crowd control and field scout together just to have bungie take a poop on my happiness :( I'm more upset over the losing field scout on all my gun then the gjallarhorn nerf

          • Bungie has a lot of Really Dumb answers that many of us see as a way they are extending Gameplay. It's really dumb. Just develop harder End Game content....seriously.

          • By getting rid of field scout's abilityto increase magazine size they effectively reduced max allowed ammo. FB used to have 13 in the mag and 113 or 114 in reserve, now it's 10 and 88

            Bungee really should have mentioned this nerf. I am a little pissed off. A lot of guns I kept and asended were because it had this perk.

          • i usually despise comments bashing bungie but this is actually pretty spot on. one of the ways year 1 was going to be special, was the fact that people had guns with perks that could no longer be rolled. Final round was OP, but it was only OP for those of us that played while it could get rolled. I liked that they said, "okay, this perk is too good so it can no longer get rolled but if you already have it, you're good." BAM! A benefit (one of the few) to being a day-1er. If they wanted to change field scout, they should've taken the same approach - don't let it drop anymore so people that have been playing since last year have something to show off and aren't royally pissed.

          • I thought it was a bug that came with 2.0. They nerfed field scout? Why? Why can't I continue to use my praedyth's in crucible the way it was? This is getting ridiculous. Field scout is useless now. 4 in the chamber of my praedyth's, put on field scout, still got 4 in the chamber. Useless. It's starting to feel like Battlefield 3 all over again. Great game. Needed a few tweaks. They over react, and nerf it all to the ground and make what you use to enjoy into mush. Not excited about this.

            • You know, I get why Field Scout got nerfed. I get why a perk that maxes out your clip and ammo reserves is amazingly good. I get why the reserves were diminished even with it on. what I don't get is why the clip was affected. Why not just nerf it like extended mag and other ammo perks were? Nerf it by 50% clip and reserves both and call it a day. Don't do the same thing you did to Auto rifles before and just did to non-exotic Handcannons not called Fatebringer, don't make it useless and tell us you did the best thing and that tests showed it was the right thing, because we all know that's not true. Because if it were then Auto rifles wouldn't have been buffed by this patch.

            • You are absolutely right, this incomprehensible nerf is a slap in the face of gamers who put countless hours into levelling their favourite weapons and perks. All my sniper rifles except Icebreaker are now limited to 4 rounds magazines and max. 18 shots in reserve! I get the idea that Bungie doesn't seem to trust their ability to design innovative, attractive new weapons and perks.

            • they did it to loads of things to change the playstyles we use, i didn't see anyone ask for a nerf to black hammer or ice breaker i didn't see anyone ask for shotguns to be nerfed in PVE but it happened because they don't want us doing massive consistent damage to the bosses in TTK since they are supposedly not bullet sponges of course all year one bosses will now be utter ball ache

                Agreed. Can someone explain to me why a heavy machine gun has 25-35 rounds? Every HoW machine gun i got had 23, 25, 32 rounds. My vanilla Zombie Apocolypse had 75 (with field scout) now has 43. How is that a BELT fed machine gun? A good assualt rifle has 30+ and its a mag... 75 rounds felt like a machine gun. Some of these guns have the Perk where extended fire increases accuracy and stability, yet you barely have 2 seconds of fire before the BELT is empty..... terrible

                Bump = would really like to know when BUNGIE is going to start expanding on this game in true form and fashion of the gaming era we currently reside and actually make DESTINY better... instead of much, much worst :( Changing things constantly that nobody had complaints about and catering to the constant griping of PVP players buffs and nerfs, instead of working on more actual game content that isn't near game breaking with an over-priced tag attached to minimal DLC 3 times a year... Really bordering on losing all hope in this 10 year endeavour that BUNGIE has repeatedly made promises to resolving, but never stands by almost everything that they say :(

                I'm not even getting TTK and this still pissed me off. Pretty much ALL the weapons I used had field scout. Fang VoC All my heavy machine guns(now have like 26 in mag? So dumb, what kind of machine gun is that?) Monte Carlo Vex Corrective measure All my snipers
