The story of my guardians is intimately tied to their weapons, please allow us to choose to ascend weapons across the lifespan of the game if we wish to, in particular legendary weapons. These shape our character's actions and make guardians unique, in a way that being the 4815162342th guy to get Gjallahorn or Thorn never can. By all means make it harder to ascend old gear than abandon it, but have an equivalent of Etheric Light for sentimental players like me please.
