Beam Rifle vs Sniper Rifle

As far as I understand the sniper rifle outweighs the beam rifle by a long shot, seeing as how the reticule on the beam rifle is unfortunately quiet minuscule. Also the recoil and the cool down are quiet annoying. Discuss....

 • The Beam Rifle is great, it offers an instant kill rapid 2 hit shot, but then you overheat. But you can also time your shots for continuous fire. Overheating is also more versatile than Reloading, as you can't reload while shooting your secondary weapon. Also I find the Beam Rifle more ammo efficient, when you pick up a sniper it will only have 12 shots max (2 spare clips), where a Beam Rifle will always come with 20. Sure you can pick up extra ammo (up to 24 shots) with the sniper, but hey, if you walked over a beam rifle with more ammo, you could just swap out anyway.

 • I love the beam rifle if you do it right you can go for more then 4 shots without cooling down.

 • beam rifle is rapid fire, much like the sniper from halo 2, and with no reload times, it gives it a distinct advantage over the sniper when play team snipers, with unlimited ammo. only downfall for the beam rifle is the overheat, but if you know how to use it you should never let it over heat :S

 •
Posted by: hARdCORECheif Beam Rifle shoots two bullets quick, so there's an advantage.
which means, typically you dont head shot, like in halo 2 all it meant was that you felt you were good with it but were not. countless times people used that on me and missed me with one or both. and got them killed. example, burial mounds a guy was about to get out side the level and tired to double shot me with it, but i sniped him in the head. because he missed both. but, its better in halo 3 and feels less dumbed down

 • Max ammo for sniper holds more shots than the beam rifle. The beam rifle can shoot two shots very fast, but then requires a cooldown. Sniper can shoot four times consistently and makes a cooler sound. Sniper FTW!!

 • Depends. If we have unlimited ammo, I prefer the Beam Rifle, otherwise I like the sniper.

 • it has a much easier feel to it so i prefer the beam rifle over the human one they should make a game called beamy snipers so you have a beam rifle instead of a shotgun

 • The Beam Rifle is good, in the sense of having 2 bullets shooting fast, therfore killing someone fast if u have a good shot, such as myself, but the sniper is good because of the high ammo capacity. Although some ppl such as myself most of the time can shoot both those snipers pretty close to the same speed. I find sometimes that when i'm using the beam rifle i can shoot someone, they are almost behind a wall, then ill shoot the wall and it either bounces off and hits them, just nicks there shoulder or plainly goes through a crack through the wall, it although is confusing to the other player but it is still to your advantage. If i had to pick i would have both and a Br, which can never happen so nah...

 • For me, it comes down to range. If I'm on a pretty close-quarters map (say, Construct), then I prefer the Beam Rifle because I find it easier to no-scope, sniper-bop, etc. with it. If I'm very long-distance, like on Avalanche, then the human sniper is my first choice, due to the reticule's shape.

 • interms of damage/speed the beam rifle is weaker but faster, snipe is slower but more powerful, but you dont notace thhis in matchmaking, just when you have a game with super sheilds.

 •
Posted by: diesel93 I would go with the Sniper rifle. The beam rifle is cool but unfortunately no ricochet lol.
There is ricochet with Beam I prefer Beam Rifle for no-scoping, long distance sniping, and Team Snipers, but Sniper Rifle is better when I'm scoped in, and taking mid-range shots.

 •
Posted by: Stralight
Posted by: SLEEPS1NABOX Beam Rifle is better. its a wider shot.
Really now?
yes really. anyways, any decent player in Team Snipers would start off a sniper fight with a beam rifle. You overheat and switch to your sniper rifle, by the time you fire 4 shots the beam rifle's cooldown is finished and you can use it again. basically, you can take 8 shots without reloading.

 •
Posted by: HaLos BabY GirL do you get more shots from the beam rifle or the sniper rifle?
sniper rifle gives you 2 more shots and the ability to snatch the other teams snipe for ammo

 • I liked beam rifle over sniper but only in fiesta for the human sniper 4 shot=overkill, reload miss killtac. the beam rifle can keep shooting. I do although suggest everyone pick up a beam secondary in the team snipers playlist...it's a life saver

 • I prefer the beam rifle for the double shot to the chest. This is especially true in TS when ammo isn't an issue.

 • I'll use either as long as it is available. But I do like the re-load capability of the sniper file more. (I miss alot of shots)

 • Please remember that my answer is MY opinion. I do not mind if you bash it as I am conversing with the OP. The reticule is equal for both. The Sniper Rifle's reticule is nice for getting accurate "pocket-esque" headshots. The Beam Rifle is barely wider but it seems to be a favorable way to body shot. The Sniper Rifle only feels natural to mainly people who don't use the Beam Rifle much, if you have used both you will come to learn that the Beam Rifle is better. The Sniper is easier for No Scoping and feels more natural when Quick Scoping to many people whereas the Beam Rifle is better for getting kills as it is easier to land a shot on a player's body. I said that as when you use the Sniper RIfle many people aim for the head when shooting another player without the Sniper Rifle equipped and the Sniper "feels" easier for headshots when aiming but it is not so for body shots. The Beam Rifle is better if you are going for anything that kills the opponent better as it is faster and makes contact more often. The Sniper Rifle is favored by many as it is in MLG and they feel more "MLG" by using it. I play MLG alot but then again I have played over 7000+ games and have experienced all playlists in Halo except The St. Patrick's Day one. Another part I must mention is that the Sniper RIfle and the Beam Rifle make different sounds. This section is determined solely by the person that is using the weapon. I happen to find that a Covenant Carbine is more annoying due to it's sound even though the Battle Rifle is more loud and irritating. The next part is just rumors that may or may not be true but I feel I should mention: The Beam Rifle reflects more bullets for mutliple damage (Basically what I am saying is people say it ricochets bullets more often). I am not sure if this is true but I have seen my reflections more easily when using the Beam Rifle than the Sniper Rifle but that may just be because of the pixels. The Beam Rifle also I believe has an extra shot due to a glitch. At about 40-30% if you shoot fast you will get an extra bullet at 0% before it cools down I believe (Not proven but I remember doing it myself). But with all my data together ***BEAM RIFLE*** is my final choice due to it's speed, better chances of making contact, and the simple factor that the noise is less annoying to me.

 • Sniper rifle because you can reload it. In team Snipers, it really doesn't matter.
