Why are the halo books so different than the Halo: Reach game?

The Halo book " The Fall of Reach " contradicts the Halo: Reach game. In the book neither Master Chief, Cortana or, the PoA were never on Reach while the covenant attacked the planet. "which dismisses the ending of the game. Dose anyone else fell confused on why the books and game are so different? plus they put that diary in with the game (for those who bought the upgraded versions of the game) to try to blend the books with the game which didn't fool anyone.

It doesn't have an FTL drive and he is hundreds of lightyears from Earth. He would run out of fuel or die of old age before he was even close to getting home.[/quote] You'd have to read First Strike to fill in the blanks, which is why I get annoyed when people act like the games are the only portion of the canon that matter. The books flesh out the universe much more than the games could even hope to.
