47 RepliesIf guys want to RP as a chick, I won't stop them. Just a tad gay though.

Studies have shown that the two biggest reasons for men playing as female characters are that A) people are always more willing to help a female character and B) men prefer to be looking at a woman's backside when playing in third person, like WoW or in the Tower or the Reef.

I always use female characters because of one reason and one reason only
I love women
;)

2 RepliesI don't think it really matters lol I mean, why should it?
-
I agree. It doesn't make sense. If they wanna play as a girl, let them. And if a girl wants to play as a guy, let them. It doesn't really matter
-
Don't know or care. People probably don't feel comfortable playing as their opposite gender, i myself have no problem.
-
Idk man I do it all the time people say it's pretty weird or gay why because I know I don't have to play as a guy to say I'm not gay it's annoying when people ask I just say because I can

1 ReplyI started playing as a girl because I played too many male characters and I wanted a change of pace.

7 RepliesEdited by Bluefoxx3: 9/6/2015 4:27:35 AMI've played alot of games, vast majority of them always had a male lead. In RPGs and the like, female characters tend to have better looking armor than males do and when I mean armor, I mean actual armor, not 'armor' that shows 90% of their skin. I love having vast customization options and female characters always have more to offer than males for it. Just look at Vindictus, it's an RPG with gender locked classes. Fiona, Vella, Evie and Arisha all have x5 times the amount of customization options to choose from over the male and have nice armor to boot. Lann, Hurk, Karok and Kai do have cool armor and such, but that's practically all they have going for them. The girls all have tons of hair styles, inner armor ( under wear essentially ) and make up to choose from. They have so much variety over the male characters. Male characters only have a couple choices to choose from in terms of inner armor. But in other cases like Mass Effect, Jennifer Hale did a fantastic job bringing life to femshep, maleshep had such a monotone voice and showed no emotion during the more emotional scenes like femshep showed. Voice Acting is another important attribute and generally female VO's pour more life into their leads than male VO's do. Looking at a girls ass is irrelevant, everything I mentioned above is why I usually prefer to play as female characters. If you saw all the female characters I've played, none look skanky or showing as little as possible, I make them look like warriors, my Fiona in Vindictus for example has a very unique set of armor thanks the the transmog system it has. She's balanced between having beautiful looking armor as well as showing some skin to still show she is indeed a woman. At the same time she looks regal because her lore depicts her as being a Knight and comes from royalty so I found a fine line between having armor that resembles a Knights while at the same showing some skin.

1 ReplyNeither do I. When given the choice, I usually go 50/50 either way. Some games I feel like running as a female, and others I run as a male. Just depends on how I feel during the character creation screen. I don't treat any characters as an extension of my physical self. They're characters. I become them for the duration in which I play the game. Is it gay for me to play Tomb Raider? Then why is it gay for me to play as a female in other games?

Edited by Zanhattan: 9/11/2015 7:07:00 PMIn most rpgs, I always start with a male, then do another playthrough as a female. In the end, it doesn't matter what someone chooses.

Youll notice there has never been a thread discussing why women sometimes make male charactets. Thats because this is a dumb conversation that only straight men have. It doesnt matter what gender characters you play in vgs. At all.

2 RepliesI don't play as what I look like in real life, that would defeat the purpose of a game serving as escapism. I usually pick something the least similar to a generic human. If customization is good enough then I usually pick something that resembles a robot. To relate to your question; maybe it's the same mindset that I explained, just with a different preference of alternative character. I don't know if this is right or wrong, but it's my guess.

4 RepliesI'm a guy, and my Warlock and my Hunter are both females. I agree, what's so bad about it? There are some great female video game characters out there!
-
1 ReplyIn short: I don't care because it really irrelevant and it does matter

Idk. But here is a YouTube comment I saw on a Destiny video: "I am a woman and it's very offensive to make people think we would play this kind of game."

Edited by JSDFREEDOM89: 9/8/2015 1:25:51 PMAny various number of reasons. Insecurity about themselves, immaturity, closed-mindedness, or the fact that they're let down to find out the person at the other end of the controller isn't a girl. In most games, female character models look better than their clunky male counterparts. They typically have better voice actors. Some game playthroughs can be dramatically different if you play as a female. In some shooter games, females have slightly smaller hit boxes. They are more aesthetically pleasing. In games with male main characters, they provide a good counterbalance to the story and other characters. Plus, it looks really cool when a strong female character kicks total ass in combat.

Some people may take offense at particular reasons why people play like that they just want to stare at a lady and when a lot of female characters are more scantily clad this comes as an insult. I mean it's basically like saying that women are only there for you to stare at and to be pretty for you. Some may take offense because that model was put in so female gamers could feel more like their character, connect more with the game, but if you aren't a woman it doesn't have the exactly same effect. I think the root of it though is that guys playing as the females can be the cause of the female models being sexist and insulting. On the feedback forum there was a guy complaining that he thought the female face options weren't pretty enough. When I responded I thought they were fine and very realistic but the male faces were awful. His response was that the thread was only about the women's faces and basically told me to shut up and that I had no right to even mention the male faces. In that same thread someone posted that the female models should have bigger breasts and his response was "hell yeah." That's what women take more offense at. People playing as women because that female body is just an object to them. Personally my only grievance with it is that when I'm in a fireteam, as one of my character that are all female, I have to clarify to people that I'm a girl, not a kid, because they assume I'm a 13-year-old boy just playing as a girl. Other than that I don't give a shit. Hell in games like Mass Effect or Dragon age I encourage crossing genders because the games play differently and different things are open to each gender. And in Destiny being female because the dances don't suck is logical. But if you play as a female character because you think the hit box is different you're just stupid. That was true for like one COD game and nothing else.

I can honestly say I've never seen anybody get rustled over a game character genderswap, ever.
-
I like to switch back and forth. I get tired of playing the same toon all the time, even the female ones. Of course, I have this sickness where I rarely finish a game. If I like it, I'll keep thinking of new ways to start up a new character, sometimes based on a famous person, and start over.
