Halo 3 RapidFire Controller Mods?

INTRO I don't know if others have experienced this but, today I was in a Ranked "Team Doubles" on Construct. It was "Slayer BR". Now I may only be a rank 27 "iFatalix", but I know how fast a BR should shoot. At the beginning, me and my teammate started strong. The other guys looked pretty bad, and we took the lead. However, about 3 minutes in, we started losing. The one guy was out BRing my teammate and myself with ease. [I mean it was bad!] So anyway, we got further and further into the game and I realized that, hold on a sec, he's shooting faster than normal. I know that this is a common excuse for a losing team but no! It was totally obvious. I mean his BR sounded like an SMG, it was total BS, it was Rapidfire, anyone would have known that. Im a long time fan of Halo 3 , I used to play Halo 2 when It first came out. So right away I thought, "Okay, this is a mod". That worried me. (For those that played halo 2, modders were a B**ch). So I went online and checked out some reasons and explanations to how this is could have been possible. I quickly learned that it most likely wasn't a game mod. Controller mods for Rapidfire known as "Turbo Controllers" could have this effect on these 360 games. [Other games like Cod4, Cod:WaW and L4D] Not only did I learn that, In about an hour, I had learned, where to get one, how the layout works, and how to even make your own!! There are tutorials all over the web, youtube, quick google searches. So many websites (including Ebay) had these brand new controllers for as little as 79.99 US with about 20$ in shipping. I just want to know people's opinions on this subject. Do many people have these controllers? You can build em yourself for god sakes! Have other people ran into these players using the mods? And most important, what is Bungie's (as the creators of Halo 3) take on this? I'm sorry, I don't browse through CoC or ToA, but this seems odd to me. I haven't seen this kind of stuff before so don't kill me if the subject is in there. Any insite would be great, thanks guys. EDIT: Proof that it sells, proof that it works, proof that the RapidFire controller is real. Link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quU3JoOD7Xo [Edited on 04.25.2009 9:03 PM PDT]

 •
Posted by: xxx5n4k3rxxx Okay everyone, I actually went out and bought a "Turbo Controller" at "Best Buy". It does infact increase your fire fate of almost any gun in halo 3. The only guns that really didnt change was the "Rocket Launcher", and "Sniper Rifles".
Best Buy - Your major modded hardware super store. Likely story.

 • It wouldn't do much, other than save your fingers. The firing rate of weapons is programatically controlled. It does not matter how fast the command to fire the weapon comes in, it is defined by the game itself. Any perceived increase in speed is likely a placebo. You got something new, and you want it to preform better than what it replaced, so you either fire faster in an effort to improve stats, or think it fires faster. [Edited on 04.26.2009 4:59 PM PDT]

 • it might not be shooting faster but it takes the actual skill out of actually knowing when ur weapon is ready to shoot... and also the fact that u can hold the trigger to shoot makes it a -blam!- ton easier to aim

 • Strange how he was shooting faster. But a modded controler does not change the core of the game. You can pull the trigger as fast as you like, even 30 times a second or w/e these controllers do, but you can't make the BR fire before it's ready without mods.

 • The only noticeable difference in rapidfire mods in controllers will make in Halo 3 are as follows: -Reduce recoil of weapons like the SMG -Reduce spread of weapons like the Needler, Spiker, and Plasma Rifle -SLIGHTLY increased weapon RoF, but not what you are explaining. •
Posted by: Wheelsonthebus35 i do have to concur with some of the people before me. I install the chips as a side job. Essentially the only thing it does is make the BR so you dont have to press the trigger, just hold, it still fires at the same speed if you were to rapidly pull the trigger. The things it does work with is Turrets (speeds up spin up time), Vehicles(ghost and warthog are more accurate), Spikers(super accurate), Needlers(no spray), Plasma Pistol/Rifle(fast burst), Carbine is a little faster(but still can only be so fast) and it Turns the AR into a weapon that is accurate at long range, but otherwise no effect on the br.
ding ding ding [/thread]

 • I have ran across a similar game. Before the match started I was spam d with friend requests from one of the guys on the other team, and when I say spam d I me the message pop up on my screen about 100 in the time it took for the game to load. Then once we got into the game and started to play one member of the other team was using the carbine and it was shooting unbelievably fast there was nothing we could do about it. I saved the game but not sure if I still have it I'll look for it and post it if I haven't removed it.

 • Yeah I've seen advertisements online for the controllers with video of them working. The only thing i can figure is since its not a modification to the system it isn't considered illegal, or against any terms of service. Like the one guy said MLG does forbid it because they have their own terms for participation, and find the turbo controller to be cheating. I personally had a turbo controller that i used for the PS2 but I've had no impulse to get one for the 360.

 • Unless you just happened to be unlucky enough to have both shoot at you but you only noticing one. Then again none of us would know without, the movie to prove what you had said.

 • I used to have a rapidfire controller about 8 months ago (then it broke) and it didn't have a big affect on the br. the only weapons were it really made a difference was the carbine, needler and plasma rifle.

 • I can't link you to official answers but I believe turbo controllers are ineffective in H3 because of the way it was programmed so the BR, for example, can only fire at it's programmed rate. Macro button controllers that perform automated button combos with the press of a single button do work however and they are banned in MLG competitions. I'm still not sure how well button combos work in H3 though because I believe the charachter simulation must be completed before the next action can take place. For example, to do a double beatdown you have to wait for the initial beatdown animation sequence to finish. Edit: I think this is more of a lag/poor connection with host when you come across this in H3. [Edited on 04.25.2009 9:17 PM PDT]

 •
Posted by: ES315 Najor Nelson touched upon this issue in his podcast a few months back. Final consensus: Turbo/RapidFire controllers are not against the ToS, as there are games that expect players to use them *ie any fighter like BlazBlue, StreetFighter, etc)
Really? I would've thought something like that would be like tampering the system.

 • I thought all semi-automatic guns in the game (BR, Carbine, Magnum etc.) had a set limit of fire because regularly people can pulse the trigger faster than the shots are made which is why you have to set a "tempo" with your finger so your gun is ready to shoot just as you press the trigger. Sorry if that sounded weird but I'll only believe you if you can link me to a video of the game.

 • It could also be lag, however if you feel that it is modded put the video in your fileshare and PM a Bungie employee about it with the link to the video in your fileshare.

 • In my opinion, these should not be allowed under any circumstances in these FPS games but there's really no way to stop it if there are other games where players are expected to use em.
