So I had been considering doing something like this before.
I've continued pushing this point and no matter what the trolls say, I'm not stopping and neither should anyone else who feels the same way.
ALL YEAR 1 LEGENDARY AND EXOTIC WEAPONS AND ARMOR SHOULD CONTINUE TO ASCEND.
Kackis on Year 1 Legendaries: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8WX1fSimWM
Kackis on Year 1 Exotics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4b5Jj6xGxQ
There is just simply NO REASON for them not to continue onward going forward. It shouldn't be a decision that is FORCED on anyone. It shouldn't be all about having the new stuff compete with the old but rather designing new innovative weapons that will compliment and go along with what is already available. There is NOTHING WRONG with having MORE OPTIONS AND VARIETY. It adds that level of diversity which the game has been desperately needing since the start.
LOOK. If you are going to design the game around a Loot Driven Experience where the primary reason for people to play the game is to go around grinding for weapons and armor (Vendors/Raids/Iron Banner/POE/etc.) and then a year later decide AGAINST allowing them to continue bringing those things into the newer content? Then you effectively RUIN that first year's worth of experience and make everyone feel as though their time and hard work has been UTTERLY POINTLESS.
Did people have fun playing with others and make friends? Yes. However, its important to remember that YOU CAN GET THAT EXPERIENCE IN ANY ONLINE GAME. It is by no means exclusive to Destiny in the least and the ONLY reason the vast majority of folks did it at all in this game was for the common goal of getting desired loot.
Am I wrong? If every player in the game had instant access to every Legendary and Exotic in the game, how many do you think would have honestly spent as much time as they did in the game?
And like I have explained so many times before, telling us that Year 1 Weapons/Armor will still have a place in Year 1 Content means NOTHING. How many people do you really think did Vault of Glass over and over again JUST to get a Fatebringer for the sole purpose of spending the next 10 years using it to keep redoing VOG? No, of course not. They got it like the rest of their weapons so that they could bring everything WITH THEM on their 10 year adventure. That's why people WANTED increased Vault Space because many are collectors or specialists who enjoy having an expansive arsenal at their disposal.
And our Year 1 accomplishments aren't found in some emblem or a black shader, but in the weapons and armor that we quested for.
As the saying goes; "Become Legend."
Our Legend is directly tied to our gear and that includes Year 1, Year 2, 3, 4 and all the way up for as long as Destiny lives. Take that away and what are we?
If I wanted a game where I consistently reset my progress all the time, I'd just play Call of Duty with their lame ass Prestige nonsense. Don't we want MORE from Destiny than some cheap COD knockoff?
With all that said, I encourage anyone who feels the same or who has posts talking about the same to add #infusionforall to their threads. I've already marked my relevant posts with the new tag. I chose this simply because lets face it, the new Infusion System that Bungie revealed in their first Twitch stream totally just SCREAMS Year 1 Gear Ascension. I honestly believe that allowing players the option to use ANY Legendary to Infuse with another Legendary to boost its damage/defense rating (Regardless of them being from Year 1 or Year 2), is the PERFECT answer to resolve this problem.
Same goes for the Exotics too, because even though we've seen what was written in Edge? You're going to be making NEW "Year 2 Versions" of those Year 1 Exotics. They won't be the exact same, meaning its going to be either hit or miss with folks. By all means, I totally advocate the concept making Year 2 Versions of all current Exotics, but players should still be given the option to keep upgrading the original versions as well.
That is why I say #INFUSION FOR ALL...
This is an important issue that deserves attention until something is done about it. Truth.
God Bless.
EDIT: Add the #infusionforall tag to your post and add it to the listing! https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Topics/0/1/0/infusionforall
EDIT #2: Guys, "Power Creep" honestly isn't that big of a problem. Don't be so quick to jump to this conclusion, its not as if Bungie themselves have given this as an answer. At this point its just others in the community speculating and in all seriousness its an easy fix.

I remembered yesterday that they'd removed the "Blades" random events from the game and it occurred to me that I paid for that content but never got to experience it. I bought the full package as House of Wolves was releasing but it seems now that I didn't actually receive the full game. Only a minor piece (as far as I know) but how much will new buyers miss out on next month? With this whole Year 2 debacle I'm not so much worried about the content for TTK, so far it looks like a great addition, I am however very worried about how much of the game we're all going to lose! - All of our year 1 guns, LOST. - All of our year 1 armour, LOST. - Blades, already gone. - Prowling wolves, gone?
One pack left on Mars?
- Raids? Will there be some leveling to ensure the challenge remains or will they just be boring low level cakewalks? - Strikes and Y1 missions? Will they get higher difficulties or do we kiss them goodbye? In my view Destiny is an expanding universe, with each iteration the game should develop but it should do so through addition, not substitution or subtraction. We have ALL paid for the content and we MUST be allowed to keep ALL OF IT! ... and for that to happen it must also stay relevant so I'm supporting ascension for all. I've just been playing the Forza 6 demo, very impressed and looking forward to the full game now but could any of us imagine them releasing an "expansion" next year and saying "But you won't be able to upgrade any of your year 1 cars, you'll need to drive these new ones if you want to be competitive." or "Mazda 787, well it was a bit OP so we're going to take a wheel off"? Didn't think so.

I LOVE my legendary weapons, such as Fatebringer, Vision of Confluence, Black Hammer, Atheons Ep., and other cool legendary weapons we have with awesome perks because we can reforge anything now. But at the same time I'm ready for these weapons to phase out. I want another hand cannon with badass perks like Fatebringer, I want new heavies with cool perks, I want snipers and fusion rifles that have variety. I'm tired of using the same 3-4 load outs for everything. Example(s) for PvE- (Xbox- One) P- Fatebringer, Vision of Confluence, etc. H- Black Hammer, Ice Breaker, shotguns (all with identical perks now.. Aim to increase range, luck in the chamber, aim to reduce spread, etc.) H- Gjallarhorn... Or other heavies that are once again identical with proximity and tripod. Machine guns have a bit of variety but are rarely used in PvE. When playing PvE it's the same couple loadouts. The exotics 90% of the time are Icebreaker or Gjallarhorn unless you are doing a nightfall or PoE when there are burns. Then you will change to Truth or Thunderlord. I'm not saying using these weapons is a bad thing. I love using all of them. I just want more choices with a variety of perks. Because most loadouts look identical when you inspect players that are playing PvE. To do that they need to phase out of reascending year one weapons and create a shit ton of new weapons in its stead. It's been two DLCs and the only useful legendary weapons that came out from end game content was the Black Hammer. Word of Crota is decent but it's no where near as useful at FB. Abyss Defiant is ok with its solar burn and effect on wizards but won't replace Vison. Just about every weapon from PoE is garbage because half the gun perks are for fallen. The only guns worth a damn in my opinion from HoW was Messenger and Scholar. Messenger isn't very useful in PvE but wrecks in PvP although it still is replaced by Thorn, TLW, and Red Death. The Scholar is decent in PvE but isn't full auto. My point is that there really aren't any amazing guns that have been released in ANY dlc that could outshine guns which have been around since release. That needs to change. Then maybe we can bring back the old school weapons.

Edited by ne0m4tr1x: 9/2/2015 10:49:02 AMOne of the things that bugs me is the people who are against this just say silly things. Kinda like "But the Y1 guns are OP.......Better ones are coming in Y2 TTK" Won't that mean the new guns are OP then. "Move on from your crutch.......new guns make the game fresh" So what gun's did you use last year. "We need more guns......its time to move on" Yeah my whole year worth of gear being left behind really helps with that. "Using the same load out for 10 years would be boring" Yeah and thats why we have freedom of choice, you don't wanna you decide. "This is how mmo's rpg fps work" So you think they should all follow the same design principles. Thats not very original is it. Shouldn't bungie be it's own game. Oh and its not a mmo ask Bungie. "Old content has to be left behind or whats the point why would you want to get new gear" Well we all want new gear. I have been in raids and prison's with people chasing weapon's they know are crap. whu make them less relevant along with the content for an expansion that is mostly design based cosmetic changes.

I am pissed that some of the original weapons and armor from vanilla aren't available anymore. Used to have xb360, got all the old dead orbit armor on there, and now I have ps4 and upon starting destiny over again I find that none of the old stuff is available and most of the new stuff is ugly. Please make the old stuff available again at least, even if they are less powerful. I want my old dead orbit armor back!

Edited by N7-BADA: 9/1/2015 2:40:34 PMThr real reason why some year one is not included is, that they want people to play without them and start to miss the old weapons, so that they can make another dlc (already confirmed) and make it possible there to bring back year 1 weapons, Its just about bussines they think waaaaaay ahead so they can push out a 20/40 dollar dlc again and make more moneey. Im not falling for that im not getting the taken king, its over for me

Edited by DizzAce: 8/31/2015 6:36:09 PMYes. Also... Yes. It's a shame really, that Bungie lacks the ability to make new weapons that makes us WANT to lay down our old legendaries. Defect: last bullet in magazine temporarily turns enemies into allies. Freeze: Random bullets in magazine slow enemy movement and gun fire Roadrunner: precision kills allow second half of magazine to be fired twice as fast Slingshot: Holding down trigger before release increases rocket velocity and blast radius See?! Was that so hard?! Just create some new and interesting perks!!!!!

The data for all year 1 gear legendary and exotic stays in the system for non-DLC owners and players who keep that gear regardless of bungies refusal to ascend or carry it forward. So if the data is there they've got no excuse but laziness.

Bump! and #infusionforall

Edited by IsakRey: 9/1/2015 1:26:08 PM[Edit] Hi Mal, I originally wrote out a response to this post but retroactively decided to upgrade the reply to being a topic of it's own. If you are interested in some measure of counter argument, please find that here: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/150733659/0/0 Thank you.

But wait don't dismantle your weapons because you'll still use them in the older stuff, because you won't already have rare weapons from ttk that do twice the damage! But keep them through!
-
In a real MMO the abilities you learn are the real weapons and the weapons in hand not more then a dmg modifier. In Destiny your weapons in hand are your real weapons and your abilities are not. So people keep saying its normal to lose a weapon are right, but not if you take that on Destiny. because Destiny is a FPS with RPG elements. And not a MMO RPG with FPS elements so shut up already.

Petition to allow optional Infusion on year 1 legendary weapons: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/148284067 Personally, I don't care if ALL legendary weapons are infusable, but I feel that the end game activity legendary weapons (from Vault of Glass, Crota's End, Iron Banner, Prison of Elders, and Trials of Osiris) should be. I think I know why they are not allowing year 1 weapons to be upgraded to year 2 levels - they want us to re-grind Trials of Osiris. They have recently confirmed that Trials of Osiris will drop year 2 level gear. It's no secret that ToO has the best gauntlets and boots in the game as well as, arguably, the best primary weapons in the game.

PREACH! You know I've been thinking about why this whole Y1/Y2 gear distinction is kind of goofy and I've come up with two things that don't sit well with me personally. 1) From a reality standpoint we're playing in the console world. Destiny is not an MMO, but has some features inspired by it. Destiny 1 is an entire game until Destiny 2. DLC should complete Destiny 1 not invalidate the game that's part of Destiny 1 regardless of the year because it is not Destiny 2 but add to it. 2) From a Destiny universe point of view we are remnants of the golden age and we are finding these weapons from the golden age much like scavengers. There are only two tiny outposts making resources scarce (that's why we have to farm resources right?) which means finding these weapons and upgrading them was confined to an upgrade tree. We're essentially bringing the weapons we find and "maxing" them out by bringing them back to function the way they did during the golden age and war. Which brings me to my point, if they've remained relevant, extremely powerful even, why are any of our weapons suddenly irrelevant? Especially why are they irrelevant in the first year of our existence when they've managed to stand the test of time for centuries? Guardians aren't new and we aren't particularly special, we're just part of the masses. So if the reason is we're advancing the weapons through our gunsmith to be new tech (again which we couldn't do because they were based on golden age tech we don't understand) why can't they all be advanced? Why isn't this happening in Destiny 2 when a revamp is warranted with the new disc? Tl;Cr (too long;can't read) 1) Destiny 1 DLC should expand Destiny 1 regardless of year. Destiny 2 should overhaul things like what weapons go forward. 2) In Destiny we scavenge weapons from the golden age and proceeding war against the darkness. They are mysterious, powerful, and effective even centuries later. Suddenly they stop being strong a year after we found them. That's dumb.

They should not ascent. Its an rpg. And your weapons never level with you in any rpg

Bump bump bump

I designed all my content around the slow build up of weapon lights to 200 and beyond. Good thing I let everyone upgrade their weapons and gear to 200+ right off the bat. "I'm bored, bungie your content sucks. It was to easy!" No power creep is an issue and you can already see the dangerous effect of it. HoW was all about power creep.
