I don't know why, and many disagree with me but I find the CE raid to be much more intense and fun, because it is more aggressive than the VOG. In VOG the same defense hoarde mode concept is used in the oracles, opening, and confluxes. Not to mention you use the same two rooms for the majority of the raid. CE also uses the defense hoard concept, but I still think that the use of it was not overly exploited in comparison to VOG. Also as a relic and sword holder, I find while sword bearing it is much easier to control your team, so no individual player can mess up the raid. If you're bumped as a relic sheild you can die instantly, but if someone fires too soon on Crota you can just float, or you're already invis and you can easily ajust, if someone dies, you're probably better off without them anyway, at least in most cases. Being a sword holder also give you a more proud and district leader role among your fire team, without even having to say it most players will notice that the swordbearer directs the team from the start of the raid, while relic is a more safe role, and is often dumped on a player without much experience in the boss fight. Perhaps most importantly is the story behind the raid. Obviously the VoG has more LOTR behind it and when you research up on it it is very fascinating, it also exploits concepts of the Vex that we already know, which is good. However, in CE, the urgency behind the task at hand is exciting: CROTA WILL KILL US, we banished his sou so he can't become physical, but it's important that he be destroyed in his realm, and backround on the raid is given IN GAME. No need to read up on lore, which is what I think the VOG lacked: information as to why I am raiding this Vault... Is atheon really a threat? WHO IS HE ANYWAY?! Don't take this as me hating the vault, in fact I love it, the mystery and lore behind it keeps me interested in it, but the actual feeling of beating crota to death with that anvil sound in the music matching your sword stroke will never get old to me. Every time I personally deliver the final blow it gives me satisfaction like no other boss encounter in destiny.
P.S
This is my personal opinion, I'm not trying to start a war in a forum post, however I would like to hear other guardians inputs on their favorite raids, and why? Do you think my opinions hold truth and validity? Why or why not? Please be respectful in your reply and respectful to others replies. Remember, they're not the enemy... Oryx is. :)
EDIT: not to mention the art in CE, it's just so much better in my opinion

I like both, wish more of destiny had the creativity of the raids

CE is lame. 1st part: 1 bladedancer = success Bridge: 1 sunsinger = success Deathsinger: boring fight against a thousand Knights with 500% health Crota: Gjally
-
What's harder CE Hard or VoG Hard in your opinion

well, Hive enemy is like "survival" mode. so your point is trye however the mechanics, the whole zone is just done poorly. in vog, you had to cross the platforms, the gorgon cave etc. it was more of raid than a "extended strike" which is what CE was for me

You're right the crota fight is fun..... for the sword bearer. But that's about the only time that I truly enjoy it. Sitting on the ledge watching isn't so much fun. At atheon as far giving the relic to the least experienced person goes, GTFO. There are still plenty of people that have know clue what the relic controls are and when they grab it it's a guaranteed wipe. The vault is so much more about a team effort that's what makes a good raid. If my entire team dies on just about any part of crota I can finish said part without them. Bottom line is VOG is more in depth although I do still enjoy both and can't wait for more.

1 ReplyEdited by John6Max4: 8/31/2015 9:54:25 AMDon't even get me started on Crota. The Abyss was poorly made with simple mechanics and easy to exploit. The Bridge is plain and simple, not fun. Tedious more than anything which is why people glitch it 200% of the time. That's why people attempt the maze when they know only one person usually makes it. The Abyss is actually fun. The Hallway.....are we reducing raids now to the point where a hallway is considered a section of the raid? The Deathsinger....goddamn Omnigul is stronger than her....a wizard that can kill with a song.....she should have been a full-blown boss and not just a major......and now to the big boy himself Crota.....
hmm we're already at the boss....
this f*cker took the moon from us He took an entire celestial body from us, made us full-on abandon it and killed a shit-ton of guardians while doing so! And you're telling me we come into his bedroom after he's been napping for who knows how long and he gets taken down by a swordbearers sword? That's like someone coming into your room and using a pencil to kill you! And the pencil is the only thing that can damage you! And then they hit you in the knees with it after throwing random objects like a closet at you to get you on the floor, exhausted from taking a closet in the chin! Also why would you release Crota soooooo early and then on top of that give him such a lackluster dlc and raid! The way the 'story' talked him up made it sound like we'd have to stop him from waking up or it's bye-bye Earth, Traveler, and everything that's good in the world like Cayde-6. But no it just took some whacks with a hive sword and that'll make him disintegrate into ash.
I'm really passionate about Crota okay? He deserved a better everything
The vault of glass is a place where the vex's ultimate goal is reality. The are the most powerful there. And I forget how all the connections work, but in the vault if you're seen by a gorgon or don't destroy an oracle the Templar or Atheons will will become the reality within the vault of glass. So when it says you are lost in the dark corners of time it because inside the vault, past present and future coexist as one and you will forever be lost in the vault. But to the outside world, your entire existence has been erased and you were never real, except to some who may have known you the best and may have a resonance of your name and who you were left in their mind (I think that's how it all works, it's somewhat complex but pretty cool). That's why we still know who kabr and praedyth are. We have no idea what they looked like or who they really were, but we somehow know that they went into the vault but never made it out (I forget how we know this).

3 RepliesI have nearly 100 completions on Crota and only 30 on VOG, the best raid is VOG by far And the Relic is a lost art these days, any monkey can run the sword as I do it & im crap

1 ReplyIf Bungie had put a little more effort into designing CE and had designed mechanisms to prevent it from being soloed then it would have been better than VoG in my opinion. It's great as it is now but it could have been so much better.
-
1 ReplyI just can't wait to have a word with crota's father. His son is poorly mannered. Didn't he teach him that it's rude to point?
-
CE will be my favorite cause you can solo the whole thing easily. It felt like a really cool strike mission. VoG was the most fun for a fireteam though.
-
Completely disagree as VoG is my personal favourite but an interesting read.
-
1 ReplyYou can have a crappy team and beat CE. You cant with VoG. Seems noone ever wants to learn to use the Relic.
-
I love both of the raids, VoG is a well made super cool raid and crota is just fun because I can kick its ass :).
-
6 Replies100.2% disagree. You can solo Crota. Not VOG.
-
Crota can be done with ease by yourself and while it is possible to do VOG by yourself iit is extremely difficult thus making the VOG more challenging as a raid should be so no Crota is not better than VOG in my opinion
