So I recently watched a Destiny related video on YouTube and what I saw shocked me. Over the course of this 10-12 minute long video, the "host kept receiving these "donations" from random people watching the stream.
WHY?!
Why on earth would someone pay a guy who playing a video game? I was and still am in shock.
I don't get it, why would ANYONE donate any kind of money no matter how small to these guys playing this game?
I saw a donation as small as 2$ and one as large as 100$.
Someone explain this to me please.
EDIT: I'd just like to clarify something. I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion and choices.
I just hope that people who donate money to streamers that live in a comfortable house, with furniture, a gaming console, streaming equipment, Internet services and food in their fridges also go and donate money to people/animals that are actually needy.
I hope you go and donate some money to charities and animal rescues organizations that will actually make the world a better place.
That's the point im really trying to make. I hope some people understand me.
EDIT 2: It completely slipped my mind to mention that most of these streamers are getting fat checks from YouTube because their videos constantly hit high view counts. So the whole they need the money to survive bit doesn't really apply.

It's pretty much the same principle as paying to see a movie; you're basically paying them for entertaining you, though it is optional.

13 RepliesDon't listen to these lonely ass people. Most who donate to streamers are either lonely, or kids donating their lunch money. Any grown ass family man or woman knows better. You think I got the time to watch you play, let alone the money to give away? I wouldn't give them one red cent if I was the richest person on earth. These streamers get ad revenue out the @ss. People donate, they get a thank you from someone they follow/like, their little gamertag goes on the screen and a three second music clip plays, it makes their whole day. You gotta be either young, or lonely for that. Or just so terribly bored and horrible with money. Either way, I agree 100 percent. Give to the homeless or hungry, fûck streamers.

Why would guys pay cam whores? It's their thing and they like it
-
5 RepliesBecause it's their money and they can spend it however they please. They are being entertained and feel like showing their appreciation to a certain person. I see nothing wrong with this. It's not "stupid" or people being "idiots" at all. The fact that people in this thread even think that makes me cry for humanity.

1 ReplyStreamers are entertaining. People pay money for entertainment.

1 ReplyEdited by LordCainhurst: 9/5/2015 4:39:25 AMIt's just as everyone else in this thread has said, its entertainment. Some streamers are fun to watch and have a nice personality. Some streamers are pro players and watching a pro is good to help improve your own game. If you want to be better, gotta learn from the best on how they react to situations, right? In my opinion, donating is kind of like tipping as a form of appreciation. "Thanks for entertaining me." "Thanks for your opinion on this character/weapon/thing etc etc." Besides, I'm one of those people who actually enjoy watching others play video games. I don't normally donate but if I really like someone I'll definitely tip them a couple bucks. What I don't understand is why you care so much about what others do with their money? Ah, of course. You're the self-righteous type. Figures.

not all streamers have a youtube account or dont use it, so there are some streamers that somewhat depend on donations and tips. i dont mind the tipping id rather pay someone on twitch that entertains me than for cable when i never watch tv. but i will say some streamers dont need the tips and whore themselves out to get the money

1 ReplyEdited by SemperJ550: 9/5/2015 5:58:04 AMI am convinced that alot of these stream watchers have so much money that they are actually bored of everything. I watched several snips from streams from some guy once and this guy donated hundreds of dollars to the streamer on multiple occasions. I mean holy -blam!-... Why are people waiting tables or stripping or whatever, just go stream on twitch until some bored wealthy mo-blam!-a finds you.
-
5 RepliesWow I will make sure to never tip a waiter or anybody again.

I couldn't tell you, especially seeing how most of the top streamers are not actually funny or entertaining in the slightest

13 RepliesEdited by Shadow Artiste: 8/28/2015 9:28:37 PMThe ignorance of OP is stunning. Don't worry grandpa, I know new things scare you, but try to open your mind a little. Look up a guy called No Hands Ken. He's a quadriplegic who plays games with his mouth ... shockingly well. He is able to earn a comfortable living and pay his in-house nursing staff and travel to conventions by streaming and receiving donations and add revenue. This is an entirely new kind of income stream made possible by streaming. Isn't it great that this guy doesn't have to rely on a disability pension? There are many unique and entertaining streams out there. It's a form of entertainment, like busking and you should definitely try to come to terms with it.

People donate hundreds of dollars and they watch the same thing as people who donate nothing, there what you call stupid freaking people. But they get to post emotes, it's totally worth it

Thank you, I've been thinking this since I discovered Twitch. It makes my brain bucket hurt.
-
I can't believe how some people could justify donating $1000 to a twitch streamer. I wouldn't give that money to my -blam!-ing best friend let alone some random on the internet.
-
I don't understand it either but whatever
-
11 RepliesThat's why

why buy kfc, why buy videogames, why pay for internet, why buy a car, why why

Do you pay for cable? Direct tv/ dish?

I would never give money on twitch and things like that but those guys like gothalian make me laugh and at the end of the day isn't that what matters? -
Sometimes its what people find as entertainment and entertainment these days isn't cheap. While I don't think its right and do hope donations really go to charities you just gotta remember that people are entertained easily these days and paying people who play games that you yourself enjoy playing hits it right on the head.
-
because PEOPLE ARE DUMB :) simple as that. All these thieves and hoes who stream every day for money absolutely disguist me.

11 RepliesThey don't need donations, as they make lots of money from YouTube. What they want are TIPS, because who doesn't want more money? Most of them live in USA, and guess what? TIPS can be taxed, donations can't... Basically that's tax evasion
