From the way i read the update, and from what I understand about the physical copy, the physical copy comes with same the Emotes and Class items that the Digital Collector's Edition comes with. The Emotes and Class Items do not come with digital or physical copies of The Taken King expansion, which is where the $20 "upgrade" comes from; You're essentially upgrading to the collector's edition of the Taken King by paying that extra $20 on top of the $40 for just the Taken King Expansion. The "more stuff to come" is most likely the VIP rewards that you get for buying the collector's edition and already having vanilla Destiny and the 2 other expansions, or having at least 1 Light Level 30 guardian. I'm guessing the "more stuff" is going to be given to us on top of the VIP shader, sparrow, and emblem that will be given to us after the release of TTK.
