Come hither my fellow Brits, put the kettle on and prepare yourself a warm brew. As a frequent watcher and infrequent poster I rarely muster the effort to create a topic and care little about any attention it may proceed. However, after seeing the various cries of outrage over the poxy £40 price tag for the Taken King DLC I felt obliged to enlighten my brethren. Drink up boys and girls and have a gander to what I am about to tell you.
Now before you grab your pitch forks and scream bloody Mary I must confess, this is not a method that I have personally used but one my crafty friend had come up with and has used for every Destiny DLC. I myself, ever a bargain hunter, managed to swab the DLC when it was £27.99 from the UK Xbox store (yes for some reason it was originally priced like this but changed). Here is a quick step guide to getting the cheap version of TTK which is now £40 in the UK.
1) Wipe away your salty tears and create a new Amazon account.
2) Change said account's address to an American address, ideally somewhere where there is no sales tax (eg Oregon)
3) Buy $40 worth of Xbox live points.
4) Change the region of you Xbox to the United States.
5) Redeem Xbox live points and purchase the Taken King DLC.
6) Enjoy new, happy tears, as you get to play TTK for the same price as those gosh darn yanks.
7) Profit.
Once you have downloaded/purchased the game you can change your region back. Enjoy and hopefully this will save a few of you some £££. Apologies if this is old news, I have just seen so many complaining posts I assumed this was not common knowledge.
EDIT: A lot of people are calling this bullshit. This is expected. It was never my intention to lie to any of you or try to make you spend money. In light of this, I have a friend who has done exactly what I have stated and he has a UK copy of the game. So far he has been successful in purchasing the DLC off the Xbox store, has managed to pre download it and has switched back to the UK region on his Xbox. Frustratingly I'm not sure how to further prove this works until the DLC is actually live. I'll keep you posted.

3 RepliesWill this work, i have had people tell me that if you bought the UK game and DLC then TTK will only work if it's UK bought too?
-
I'd love to agree with you, because frankly this is pretty smart. However, I believe that if you bought a game in say the UK, and proceeded to buy a dlc on a US account, you'd still have a dlc, but you wouldn't be able to play it. The game and dlc wouldn't be compatible due to different regions.

Edited by Cyclone 75: 8/27/2015 11:40:17 AMConsidering my mate has done this for Dark Below and House of Wolves, I'm pretty sure it works. I know games are region locked when they are a hard copy. Trick here is that you are downloading the digital version of the game.
