A community manager's job is not to play with you. DeeJ is a casual gamer. He also has his own life and a job. I'm not a DeeJ fanboy or anything, I just feel that it's silly to expect your community manager to be your babysitter.
-
Edited by me2ez: 8/25/2015 11:54:01 PMa community managers job is to relay information for and from the community, at least the games that didnt get 6/10, 7/10 ratings like Destiny act on this type of managing. Where did you get babysitting from? Where in my comment did you assume we need our hand held? I'm talking about open communication between the developers and the gamers for the sake of making the game better than it is.

Destiny's ratings have absolutely nothing to do with DeeJ. Get real, the majority of Destiny's playerbase doesn't even come to this forum. Destiny's poor launch wasn't due to its community manager, but its lack of content and poor storyline. Destiny's ratings are because Bungie bit off more than they could chew and then released an unfinished product to its playerbase. If Destiny was released with its current content, it would likely have received high 80s on Metacritic and 8/10 or higher from magazines and video game reviewers alike. I got the babysitting thing from "other community managers play with players" and stuff of the like. That's them. DeeJ communicates on Twitter and Reddit. However, he cannot disclose a lot of information. He is a puppet. You're also comparing World of Warcraft's community manger(s) to Destiny's. That's silly. World of Warcraft isn't the same now as it was. DeeJ was very active during the Alpha, Beta and even for weeks leading up to and after the launch. However, Destiny has a large playerbase now. And it has only been DeeJ up until a little while ago. One guy can't answer 50,000 questions and the fact that you expect him to is silly. He can't babysit everybody on the forum and tell them everything. That's not his job. His job is to post updates on the blog with information that he is ALLOWED to share with us. You can't expect answers to all of your questions. There are two community managers and that's not enough for a game like Destiny.

Edited by me2ez: 8/26/2015 12:24:16 AM50,000 questions? lol.. please show me where you see all these questions because there arent even that many people on these forums. Like you said, the fraction of people that play this game and those who play and read the forums is remarkably insignificant. There was ONE community manager for wow during its success (keep in mind when i talk about wow, im talking about the period of success or otherwise, the period where activision wasnt involved) if you think babysittting and comm managers playing caring about their fanbase and job enough to be active with them then idk youre just lost and i pity you and whatever logic you struggle with. DeeJ and cozmo both arent active in this game enough for them to be justified as community managers and hear me well when i say this.. a community managers job is very simple.. Relay feedback from bungie and relay feedback to bungie from the consumer. You think putting together one page of a weekly update is hard? lol... who needs to get real again? I have a feeling you will struggle to grasp that so let me try to make it more clear. He is to act as a middle man, be the voice for us and the voice for bungie giving information both ways because thats how a 10/10 game like WoW during its prime among other aspects made the game a success. Destiny got bad ratings for so so so so so many reasons, not just bereft content and story. It got the ratings because like you said it was and in many many ways still is a unfinished game. I know the person who created destiny and all its story and lore and he left because of the revisioning of destiny and the implementation of pokegrimoire cards all for the sake of a more promising profit upfront. No games ever needed its own ecyclopedia of error codes. No game from bungie has had watered down artificial intelligence, no game has gone to such a dramatic extent of planned obsolescence (aside from maybe call of duty) no game from bungie has had such small player team base party assimilation. No game has delivered such terrible reward based on time and effort applied. I could go on and on and on about why the game got 6/10 ratings. I dont want to be baby sat.. thats such a pathetic way of assuming what it takes to make a game become greatness and if you think that way over responsible feedback then you must have experience playing with terrible developed games, to each their own though. Honestly i think the game deserved a lot more than the ratings it got because in truth i love destiny, i want the best for it, i dont need someone to walk along with me, i just want someone to care enough to apply critical thinking and passion to going to the furthest extent of making the game better than it is.. as it deserves from a record breaking budget and a 10 year plan. Any video game forum has toxicity within its community, thats no excuse to avoid them lol thats just lazy and if thats true as to why they avoid these forums then thats a vantage point that will only hinder the game, i hope youre wrong about that. DeeJ was mildy active and played and plays even less as time goes on, same goes for this cozmo person. He isnt a puppet, dont be naive. Hes a guy being paid to be a promotional asset to the company and i wish they would just give him a different title because any successful game that gives its community a "manager" will give the majority of logical beings someone to support. I have had 3 simple questions... in all my time only 3 questions i want answered and i dont bother anymore because they wont answer them, at this point this is something i accept and know. I'm comparing a video games community manager success to another video games community manager failure. Obviously its apples and oranges but Destiny had the chance to be just as successful as wow in fact with the record breaking 500 million dollar budget, 500+ employee backbone and over 4 years of development, they only had more of an opportunity to be successful than wow at its beginning year. Oh well though ill keep supporting the company because im not just a consumer, im a fan of them and the flawless first person shooter engine they created. I think we can only agree that destiny has no where to go but up.
-
He probably won't. Maybe Cozmo will tho
-
Edited by me2ez: 8/25/2015 6:55:17 PMThats it? Obviously a games community manager is a representative of the company but you and everyone else who support the current state of management needs to understand that a community manager is a middle man between the buyer and the seller, he is THE VOICE between BOTH parties. DeeJ has acted on this, but he in no way is a middle man in that sense, hes more of a promotional asset to this company than a manager of its community. I hope you and many others grasp that with optimism.
-
What deej does is what deej does. We don't know what he tells to Bungie. We only know what he tells to us. And I'm fine with what he tells to is. I don't even know what point you're trying to make with your last response, but my point was that maybe now with Cosmo helping out more posts from the community will actually be heard.
-
my last two sentences in that last reply is my point. and keep hoping because any bungie employee responsible for feedback will completely ignore this thread and im willing to bet a lot of money on that fact... or i guess opinion.
-
I wouldn't blame them for ignoring this subthread, honestly. Nothing of import is being stated.
-
the difference between being a promotional asset and what a real community manager is, isnt important?
-
Sure, but two random guys talking about it in a thread with a completely different topic is inconsequential. It's like trying to broker peace in the Middle East in a thread talking about middle eastern food.
-
maybe food is an aspect of getting to the peace you talk about? you have to think outside of the box in order for results in this sort of situation.. im not saying that would be a solution for the "middle east" but it sounds different and relative to humans as species.. these are forums, and bungie has asked each and every one of us to talk and discuss.. does it really matter where we talk about it in these forums? they keep saying they are reading all the forums regardless yet how often do you see a reply by bungie in the controversial topics trending?
-
So someone whos not a warlock?
-
Someone who's not a cock would be preferable.
-
I want to bump this but I'm afraid some of the points made down these replies are right. Once a paycheck gets involved he's subject to their crap. I bet Cozmo and deej were pretty good once too but they have to do what management says to do or they lose their jobs. But just to recognize that this dude is a rockstar bump...... just don't ever take the job... I want it offered to you but in no way consider it do you understand me.... NEVER SELL OUT!! Unless you need a job and have a family and stuff then by all means sell out. But not if your family would lose respect for you then leave you rendering your gains fruitless then never sell out. Unless you don't like your family and you want them gone and that bungie money would get you some bombshell bimbo and big house overlooking the cascades.... then by all means sell out. But not if you think all the material things will only cover up the emptiness inside until you realize you have nothing and look for the nearest drug needle to mask the pain then don't sell out... unless... you know what just do whatever.
