Help! Should I buy The Taken King? Age 72
I hate to keep mentioning the fact that I'm 72 - but I am and my age severely affects my play in Destiny. My reflexes are slower, hand/eye coordination is worse and my eyesight is poorer than younger players. I also have periferal neuropathy in my hands (that's a medial condition that causes you to lose feeling in your hands and feet). I'm not complaining, just stating facts. No sympathy please.
I've played every day since late January 2015 and Destiny is the first and only video game I ever played until that point. Through persistence and some luck (the GHorn dropped on me an April) I've managed to get my three characters to level 32 but can't get them leveled any further. I stink in the Crucible and have never done the VOG or Crota's End simply because I didn't want anyone feeling like they had to wait for me or I was slowing them down. I also get killed a lot so I need to be revived a lot. I have managed to succeed in POE but I went to Machine Wrath from POE with another 32 and a 33 and we got smoked - several times. I would really like to continue with Destiny but I've seen that the levels are going to 40 and if I can't get any higher than 32 now, why should I buy something I can't play? Any advice would be appreciated.

I think it's awesome that you game at 72. Hope I still can. Not sure what console you are on but if it is xb1 you can add me and our group can get you guys through some of that stuff. I have been away for about 2 months due to travel but am getting back on regular in a few days and plan to start by kicking Skolas in the ass right before TTK.

1 ReplyWhat console are you on? I would gladly run you through VoG with my friends...it is such an amazing experience due to all the effort they put into it. As to your post, I would definately buy it. You will be able to level through experience so no worries about your level. Plus there will be new story missions, strikes, etc. Still plenty of enjoyable content for you! Plus at your age I am sure you understand 40$ for entertainment is basically nothing unlike most people on here.

2 RepliesJust a word of advice dude, most of these cats are gonna -blam!- with your mind and tease you, and say shit to disrespect you because their lives are pathetic and unfulfilled. Keep on grooving and do what you want. If the game is fun, keep playing. The taken king is going back to an xp leveling system, so you won't need to raid to keep up.

The only question you need to ask yourself is "Do i enjoy playing Destiny?", if the answer to that question is yes then go by TTK. In regards to leveling up, so i believe, it is reverting to when you first started playing from level 0 to 20 so leveling up only requires you play the game and earn XP. So it all boils down to how much time you spend playing as apposed to obtaining all the best gear. Sure, high skill will get you there quicker but its all about having fun my friend. They're changing the exp so that even the casual solo player can get to the level cap without needing specific gear. Getting your light level up to the recommended level to run specific things, is a different story though. ;)

Seriously man you paid for the raids! my clans thing is we love to help people! And we really love to take people through the vault of glass or crotas end for the first time. It helps us remember the joy of our first time. If your ever want to try a raid add me and we will get it done you have my guardians word!

1 ReplyYes. Some of the new changes should make it even more enjoyable. Leveling up looks easier and not dependent on a particular material or activity. You didn't have to keep up with the young players. Just enjoy the game.

Please continue to play video games, the new system means you level by experience so you level by simply playing the game. Please don't feel the need to stop based on someone else s opinion, if you enjoy and want to play Destiny keep playing and enjoying the game.

1 ReplyThe Taken King makes it so that your level isn't dependent on how much light your gear has, it's all XP based from completing activities and defeating enemies now. There is a new light level implemented but it has something to do with the average of all your attack & defence stats from [i]all[/i] of your gear, so even then it's still easier to attain a higher new light level. Also you're level 32 now, so when The Taken King drops next month, you'll still be 32 and only have 8 more levels to get to 40 (and again, that's all XP based now anyway, so it'll be easier). Bungie made this decision so that anyone could reach the maximum level in the game. Definitely get it!

Man you should defo get TTK if you enjoy destiny, looks like the game going get a hell of a lot better with more things to do (quests and and weekly bounties) Your level won't be decided by your gear or RNG now but by play time and exp gained playing the game so you can hit max level doing what you doing now. I hope you carry on being legend, you defiantly is one already.

One of the things Deej said in the Twitch reveal was how anyone could reach level 40 doing just about anything. In other words, you won't be restricted to gaining level advantages by completing endgame content. I'd say go for it.

After the last twitch reveal looks like levelling ups gonna be a lot simpler for more casual players now so hitting levels and getting the gear you want will def be achievable, as for your age mate, screw it I'll still be gaming when I'm your age 'traveller' willing! Get to it guardian!

Yea add man if your on ps4 age is only expierence there's a couple "seasoned" fellas in my clan what are you talkin about keep people waiting? I know you heard of no man left behind. And yiu gotta check out the raids they make this game so much better! But as for your question about buying the taken king. Yes buy it, if you had this much fun with destiny so far year will be a good time. There making it so you can become the highest level with out having to do the raids and that stuff just killing stuff will get you leveled up, but the sweeter gear will still come from the raids and crucible events!
