The United States historically is laughably hypocritical.

The United States has a long history of hypocrisy. The citizens of the nation are told they have the rights given to them by the highest law, the constitution of the United States and yet time and time again history has proven this to be wrong. Let me just compile a short list of events that show how hypocritical and shitty the United States has been throughout it's short history. NOT ABOLISHING SLAVERY UNTIL 1865 This is seriously outrageous. The country was founded on the idea that all men were created equal and yet people were legally considered property. To put this in perspective let me just name of a few places that had abolished slavery before the United States: -blam!-ing Mexico Russia England France Uruguay I could go on..... Seriously. The United States was one of the last countries in the world to officially abolish slavery. VIOLATION OF FREE SPEECH Back when WW1 was going on congress needed away to shut up people who were against the war so they made Espionage act. They quickly started abusing this bill and started locking up political opponents: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Espionage_Act_of_1917 JAPANESE INTERMENT CAMPS So back in WWII a bunch of Japanese-Americans lived on the west cost of the country. Most of these people were second generation or 3rd generation Americans. Meaning that they had no ties with the Japanese mainland. The United States locked these people in camps and stole their property and even sold it. Yes. They robbed them and locked them in a prison camp for looking Japanese. These were American citizens. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internment_of_Japanese_Americans LACK OF WOMENS SUFFRAGE Again. The country was founded on the idea that all people are created equal and that the government is for the people and by the people and yet 50% of the population were locked out of voting on a national level until the 1920's just because of sex alone!!!! LEGAL SEGREGATION Again. "All men are created equal" yet people with black skin have to be treated as second class citizens. It took a decade of rioting, union, and lobbing to final give these people the social rights this country claims to give to everyone. THE NSA This organization is collecting every piece of meta data it can on all American citizens against the legal protection of privacy the constitution gives us. GITMO This prison holds inmates that haven't even been charged with a crime which violates some of the oldest laws in the western world. Habeas Corpus was passed by the English government back in 1697 and is a legal right of all United States citizens. However, apparently it's fine if it's just some random person in the world. This is a violation of international law actually. --------------------------------------------------- I could just go on but the conclusion is clear. The United States is a hypocritical piece of shit. Rights proclaimed are not and never have been actually respected. At times legal citizens were locked up in prison camps and had their property stolen because of race. The United States has never and never will be "The land of the free." It's the land of hypocrisy.

  • That's cool, surprising to see someone waste so much time of their life talking trash about a State and how most people already/should know these things. So, congrats on wasting your time, m8.

      • To be fair, Russia did not abolish serfdom until the mid 1860s as well, so the United States was not completely alone in being late when it comes to abolitionism. But overall I agree with you. Another huge one you forgot is N@ziism and American Eugenics. Few people are aware that the former was merely inspired by the latter, and that it was the American IBM which helped orchestrate the Holocaust, and American eugenists like Madison Grant, Lothrop Stoddard, and to some degree, even Margaret Sanger who inspired N@zi Germany. I'd suggest reading Edwin Black's book The IBM and the Holocaust. I also found it ironic--especially after watching John Wayne's Alamo film--that the United States portrays General Santa Anne as this ruthless dictator for using force to preserve the unity of his nation, only for Abraham Lincoln to do the exact same thing to the Confederacy to preserve the unity of the United States a few decades later... I disagree with you however about Guantanamo Bay. First, because I can give two craps about international law, and two, because it's not like the terrorists we're fighting have any qualms about violating international law. Until they are willing to reciprocate, I see no reason to show them any mercy. In fact, I would say that doing so with a merciless enemy only weakens us while empowering them. All that said however, I still think that even with her faults, the United States IS still the freest nation as far as history goes. No other nation has embodied democracy, individualism, and diversity to the extent that we have. Even Karl Marx admired the United States. Again, she is not perfect--but neither is the world, and within that imperfect world, she is the closest we've come so far to perfection. So I'm grateful.

            • America basically flunked when it kicked out the British. It was dragging itself around for ages before gaining some form of dignity back. Lincoln strikes again.
Yes the flag is necessary.
• Uhh, actually OP, Mississippi didn't officially abolish slavery until 2013. Slavery was still legal in Mississippi until just recently.
