For all those who can't watch hour long video streams (pure mountain streams are a different story) and would rather have a concise list of what to do in preparation for the Taken King with it's changes-someone should get right on that, that sounds useful... So I will do it! 1) Don't dismantle anything! Yes year one guns and armor are going to be phased out, but at launch your current inventory will be used to calculate your new level and old gear can still be used to forage ahead for new gear. You don't have to worry about what is equipped on your character before launch, all gear will be used in the level calculation. Brilliant! 2) Crucible and Vanguard marks will be converted into their respective commendations that can be burned for reputation. One commendation per stack of 50 marks, so get them all evened up! Math activate: 3*((200+200)/50) = 24 commendations! 3) Stop dismantling excess materials! If you are like me 800 of each is tops right now for Spinmeatal and the like. But with the increase of Vault Space, new gear to level, and rep exchange; the more materials the better! 4) You don't have to make a new character! Every character on your account will be given a Spark of Light from the Postmaster. The Spark of Light may be used to instantly level up any character to 25! 5) More uses for Motes of Light! Stop rerolling stuff if you can stand it and save up. Motes may be used to level the new Taken King gear! 6) Stock up on experience gains with public event packages and bounties to power level the new things right off the bat. Just don't completely flood your Postmaster as there will be new awesome stuff on arrival (NASOA). 7) This is 100% pure speculation. But if you are still in the business of trying to find a faction shader, why not buy all their emblems now? It's been stated once you acquire a new emblem or shader it will be banked at the respective terminal, and it will be taken out of the faction package's reward stream.
