So this has been coming up quite a bit and I've had folks asking about it. In the name of trying to maintain an open mind, I'm not going to make any judgements or give any further opinions until after I see tomorrow's Twitch Stream. That being said, a growing request for one particular piece of information is becoming all the more prevalent.
What becomes of players from Year 1 who DON'T purchase The Taken King?
This is something that hasn't been mentioned that Bungie will be discussing in the Twitch Streams, and some of these questions should get clarification NOW rather than later after the fact when its already too late.
1: Will Etheric Light be COMPLETELY removed from the game and no longer made available for players to get from Prison of Elders? In other words, will ALL Gear Ascension be removed entirely even for Year 1 content? (So if people still have Legendary stuff they would like to ascend prior to TTK launch, should they be making it a priority to go out and get it? Will Bungie be adding Etheric Light for purchase before TTK or after TTK to give Year 1 players the opportunity to get their old gear ascended?)
2: Will Nightfall Strikes still be exclusive to players who purchase the new expansion? With there being even more strikes added, will the game now differentiate between those who have TTK and those who do not when presenting the Weekly Nightfall?
3: Since Daily and Weekly activities are being associated with Legendary Marks, will they also now be made exclusive for TTK buyers?
4: Will the new vendor inventories and weapon foundries be available for players who do not purchase TTK or are they completely left out of all the new Legendary content?
5: Will all Special Events (Iron Banner, Queen's Wrath, etc.) be made exclusive to TTK buyers?
6: Will players who did not purchase TTK still be able to reach level 40?
Cozmo, DeeJ or anyone from Bungie. These questions are extremely important and do have a serious time limit on them given how close we are to TTK releasing. Its probably not a good idea to give a response here and would better be served either addressing these matters in the Twitch stream tomorrow or in an actual Bungie.net Update so that it reaches more people as soon as possible. (Like I said, sooner we get these answers the better, its getting VERY close down to the wire and there isn't much time left for folks to do what they gotta do if the answer to most of these is going to be yes)

Edited by DarthBrando: 8/23/2015 6:32:24 AM1. YES etheric lights will no longer be obtainable. 2. Legendary marks replace crucible and vanguard marks so yes available to all 3. Blueprints IDK same with blueprint forging 4. Player level and light level adjustments WILL BE TO EVERY ONE. 5. Strikes and nightfalls: If you dont have the DLC the strike is from that week/day---> you CAN NOT play it.

Edited by kgnast: 8/22/2015 1:38:27 PMLegendary Marks: I think the changes are going to have be game-wide. Legendary marks will have to be "global". They have to change the vanilla and everything else in order for it to manifest in TTK. Etheric Light: they didnt remove ascendant mats or radiant mats. They probably won't remove these either. They will still probably drop in HoW affairs. In the past, NF was blocked to those w/ out the DLC. That will undoubtedly continue for obvious reasons. If 40 is the new max, and the new only way to receive the "stronger" gear is through TTK, then someone w/ out TTK will be under powered for NF thus removing content that they've been playing for the past year. Vendors: same as w NF, any new vendor weapons will be blocked from players w/ out TTK. Previous point and this point lead me to believe that they can't/won't have different vendors, RNG tables, across the entire game. I can't see this game surviving if 1/2 of what we had is gone w/ out TTK. I think those w/ out will have access to new vendor weapons, and will somehow be able to get up enough "power" to run NF unless Bungie has different level NF's for those w TTK and those w/ out. IB, ToO are level advantages. IB is available to all and will continue to be. Under leveled will get your butt whooped. I don't see any change there. ToO is/was a part of HoW. No HoW, no ToO. Any new event that is specific to TTK will only be available to TTK owners. I've had TDB and HoW so I don't know the answer to the following: what weapons dropped in pvp/pve strike lists for those w/ out the expansions? Was it possible to drop a low grade humility or ash factory w/ out having HoW? Those weapons were not added to that persons loot table? Your questions above are very important. These more they cut from the game that a person previously had access to is going to be a major thing. The day TTK drops, the people that haven't purchased will be here letting us all know how much was blocked from them that they previously had.

13 RepliesStream was obviously scripted. They fail hard to address the important questions.
-
3 RepliesUgh..umm is this for real the weekly update is a joke right..? It didn't anwer any of this?! It's basically a resume of the stream =_=.
-
This was my question as well..i want know if its worth getting. Meaning, i dont want someone who didnt pay to have the same access the those that do pay.
-
2 RepliesI want to know, What Bungie's thinking, Tell me will we be left behind!
-
1 ReplyPeople bought the year one game. They played that game and got their monies worth. The game is expanding in order to not get stale. If you don't grow with it, you get left behind. Seems pretty simple to me.
-
2 RepliesAfter all the time spent on this game who won't be playing the expansion. I am guessing people who don't play Destiny anymore.
-
Edited by D3a7hS7R1k3: 8/20/2015 9:01:43 PMThis is definitely something that I would like to see addressed, since I won't be continuing the story, I still paid for the base game and any base game changes are not something I am required to pay for, since I already paid.
-
3 RepliesI don't work for Bungie but the answer to a few of these questions is obvious: 1. etheric light will continue to do what it does now, ascend weapons to the year 1 max. 2. If a nightfall or whatever event is a mission or strike from the Taken King you will need to have TTK to access it.

this topic became more important after yesterday's stream.

9 RepliesWow gg bungie, theyve answered pretty much to none of the very important questions (for now)that we needed to know for the ttk.

4 RepliesAdd the no grimoire being shown thing to it too. All the vets who got all the grimoire stuff are getting left behind because new players
