What if Rasputin is the key to defeating Oryx?
Rasputin veiws the the city as a neutral party in the fight against the darkness. He wont actively protect the city because he cannot distinguish us as friend or foe. but after the mission that we defend his vault from Omnigul, you would think he would have some trust for the city. An armada the size of Oryx' fleet would be seen as a credible threat and force him to take action with his arsenal of death rays and unknown other weapons.
my thought is that Rasputin will take on a major role in the fight against Oryx as the Reef also does.
just ideas, if anyone has other theories i would love to hear them.

The true key to defeating Oryx is... [spoiler]Buy the future DLC with Oryx's father in it. We all know a lot of people haven't beat Crota before and when they jump into TTK the game will say they killed him to allow the story to roll on. Why couldn't the same happen to Oryx and his father?[/spoiler]

I thought Rasputin was going to be a bigger deal. So much stuff had a lot of focus on it in the story that amounted to nothing. Unless that's going to be another DLC: the Rise of Rasputin

Rasputin is programmed to ensure the survival of the human race. For some reason (we don't know why), Rasputin is MIA. Rasputin is probably out with the Jovians getting 10-way'd by The Nine. Rasputin could apparently end this war, so there has to be a reason "he" is gone. I believe it has to be a similar situation as Skolas getting freed: Someone has a BIGGER plan than "shoot kill bomb until human only one live," and that plan involves Rasputin in a certain point and time doing a certain action. Some speculation: >Eris asks us to defend Rasputin's bunker >Eris then inquires with the queen of the awoken about stopping Oryx >The queen stares into the universe and communicates with WHOEVER (Jovians) >could be 9, could be Rasputin, could be anything.

With the new, more immersive story, I would think such a kinda-major element like Rasputin would become far more important than before. Interesting thought.

I agree it dosnt make sense for him to just stand in the sidelines when do much is at risk.
