Every time I attempt to snipe I do horrible. There is just too much happening to snipe. Blink shotgun. Having to always hit a headshot. I just flat out suck at it.
But every now and then I run into godly snipers who just headshot me from close range and they just never miss. What am I doing wrong??? Others make it look easy and I'm just here stuck with a shotgun because I'm a horrible sniper
I've been slacking on this post, haven't been replying that much :P
So I've heard a little bit about me being used to sniping in cod? Not at all. I never sniped in cod. I rushed with smgs and assault rifles. In fact I haven't played it heavy since around September when destiny dropped and AW dropped a little bit later on. That game finished cods reign off as top dog for me. And black ops 3 multiplayer reveal was the icing on the cake for me to quit cod for good. I just think it'd be cool to learn to snipe in this game. Seems like it take a good amount of skill to be good at it. Usually respect snipers who can consistently headshot me.
And for those who say "get gud" lol check me out on destiny tracker. I have plenty of crucible experience I just never was a good sniper.
So I'd say that this post isn't too much about me anymore because I've gotten the advice I needed already. Help others on this post now! Thanks for all the help from everyone who replied.

Okay, I'm going to go out on a limb hear and assume you snipes in COD. Because Destiny sniping isn't as easy. But if you like the way COD worked I would recommend NLB. It suits the run and gun playstyle. But anyways... To snipe in Destiny you should first find the right sniper. I'll list some good snipers and how to find them Her Benevolence (PoE chest) Shadow of Veils (Variks might sell it) Efrideets Spear (Iron Banner) Praedyths Revenge (Vault of Glass) These snipers are great and are highly used in Crucible. Her Benevolence is so good due to two factors. The ability to reroll and aim assist. And if you reroll you might want to go for the perk that increases target acquisition. For a scope Ambush and Shortgaze are great. And to land headshots easier you may want to use a lower aim sensitivity, maybe around 3 or 4. But that's really up to you. I hope this helped :D

I use a 3 sensitivity and HB https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/147257393/0/0 There's some of my shots , nothing beats a bit of self promotion

Quietly, using natural terrain and obstacles to protect you while you acquire unsuspecting targets. Or, like I see a lot, run around wielding a sniper rifle like it is a hand cannon! Whatever works for you, you don't really die in a game...

It's a little harder than CoD sniping. About the same as Halo's sniping mechanics. But without the snapshot capabilities. If you want to have a similar feel with CoD sniping, use the Ambush. If you want Halo sniping, use a Longview. I use a Longview for most because it makes the hitbox freakin' bananas. But I'll using the ambush for close encounters. I prefer sniping in this game than any other game I play. It's a hybrid between Black Ops sniping and Halo: Reach's hitbox, as well as the movement of the scope. With bumper jumper, it makes it almost exactly how I played Halo. It just needs you to be able to snapshot more

I am not that good and just recently started sniping but I would have to say 3v3 is so much better for sniping or combined arms

use a scope that suits your style, try different control sensitivity, pick a decent sniper, and practice. Not much to it, anyone can do it.

Stop tryin to 360 no sc0pez people

2 RepliesJust saw a montage of a guy sniping at like 5 feet. Looks like he was good at sweeping across and pulling the trigger at just the right time.

1 ReplyLike this. It's half practice and half reflexes if I'm honest. And maybe just a little but if luck too ;-)

5 RepliesIf you truly want to learn sniping watch True Vanguard on YouTube. Amazing presentation, strategic, intelligent, humble...I basically have a man crush on him. He has a bunch of tutorial videos specific to sniping.

1 ReplySniping in destiny is nothing like in cod. I feel like the game is too fast pace for sniping to be effective. First off sniping requires the sniper to camp (recommended). Second it requires your target to be in one place too. Destiny is a game where everyone is running somewhere or jumping somewhere.

Aim, pull trigger, done

Skill and practice baby 👌

Edited by Winter: 8/17/2015 2:12:13 PMPractise make you better. Try focus on enemy head while scope in. ;) Also practise the knowledge of the best location to snipe. Once headshot someone few times find a different location that no enemies is around like I did. Since 2 weeks ago in crucible I had 27 kills 3 death using LDR 5001 only ;)

Left trigger ~> Right trigger

Most people are using Ambush scopes, which are very short range and easy to quick shot with But that's just my guess
-
Aim Assist, or mlg.
-
6 RepliesUse short range scopes Have your gun aimed at all times (scoped in or not) at head level. Then you can just quick scope in and its right on the head. Do not hesitate.

Just takes practice. I used to be awful, now I think I am above average. I hope to be great with time. As far as blink shotgunners yes they suck but your best counter is better positioning. Don't stay too close and try to bottleneck them into doorways or small alleys where you are hard scoped with your sniper.

What are you doing wrong? You probably don't have gun skill. When I read this post, the first thing that I thought of is that you are a shotgun as primary player - which is what you are. If you want to get better at sniping, the first step that you will need to take is to start focusing on your primary weapons and getting head shots with those. That will start building spatial awareness of where players heads will be, that you need to have to be a sniper. It will also help build map knowledge of where you can be successful with different types of primaries. A scout rifle in melee range is not a successful strategy. Once you build up this awareness, you can then start to build up experience with sniping. It is a much different play style than run and shotgun. You need to know angles and heights, so you don't have to make much scope corrections. Good snipers miss as well. Watch their videos.
