Honestly? How in the hell do people snipe in this game?

Every time I attempt to snipe I do horrible. There is just too much happening to snipe. Blink shotgun. Having to always hit a headshot. I just flat out suck at it. But every now and then I run into godly snipers who just headshot me from close range and they just never miss. What am I doing wrong??? Others make it look easy and I'm just here stuck with a shotgun because I'm a horrible sniper I've been slacking on this post, haven't been replying that much :P So I've heard a little bit about me being used to sniping in cod? Not at all. I never sniped in cod. I rushed with smgs and assault rifles. In fact I haven't played it heavy since around September when destiny dropped and AW dropped a little bit later on. That game finished cods reign off as top dog for me. And black ops 3 multiplayer reveal was the icing on the cake for me to quit cod for good. I just think it'd be cool to learn to snipe in this game. Seems like it take a good amount of skill to be good at it. Usually respect snipers who can consistently headshot me. And for those who say "get gud" lol check me out on destiny tracker. I have plenty of crucible experience I just never was a good sniper. So I'd say that this post isn't too much about me anymore because I've gotten the advice I needed already. Help others on this post now! Thanks for all the help from everyone who replied.

  • Only day1ners knows that when you are sniping and getting shot at while zoomed in, your character doesn't shake at all.

  • The aim assist also curves bullets. You need to take that into account. Sometimes it curves them to the point of miss. Has your gun ever been spot on in a 1v1 encounter and sometimes miss? It's the aim assist trying to "help" by curving the bullets towards the target. Now add the moving target factor and once in a while the bullet zips right past it's intended victim.

    • Got some tips for you use her benevolence or shadow of veils rifles with short gaze sl10 scope also put sensitivity on 4 then see how you go. These two snipers have the most aim assist in the game.

    • Find some good choke points and practice pre aiming at head level. Get a sniper with good stability and let the aim assist do the work. Shoot right as the aim assist kicks in which is before your aiming directly at the head. Works for me

    • Pre aim at head level.. Check out TrueVanguard, Mtashed, or kjhovey on YouTube.. There are plenty more great snipers besides these guys.. But I've personally learned a lot from them

      • Lower your sensitivity to 2-5 • Always aim at head level • Get a sniper u feel comfortable with, just make sure that it has enough impact to kill ppl straight of a res/in super • Bring a close range primary, and dont be afraid to use it if u have to • And a lot of practice, a shit ton of it, i practiced sniping in PvP, the PvE enemies move weirdly and just throw off my aim Watch streamers that snipe(redbull_nasty, nghtly,ZL_criss, FarNorthLegend) you will learn things from them. • If u wanna be a good sniper, forget using shotguns and fusion rifles. Every time u go to the crucible use a sniper. • When dealing with blink shotgunners, back peddle and start shooting with your last word • Feel free to ask me any questions :) - For Credibility:Top 1% in PVP, #1 in SD, #35 in CA for general PvP, #88 in ToO in CA, bungie bounty completed,~84% headshots in ToO. Edit: IMO i would start with e-spear(without hidden hand), since it has such a low Aim Assist, you actually have to hit actually headshots. And if u get good with an e-spear, maybe get a her benevolence with shortgaze, hidden hand, hand laid stock(snapshot for more experienced snipers) • Tip: quickdraw on the hunter subclass gives u snapshot, and it doesn't stack if u already have snapshot.

      • The best advice I can give is know your sight lines, and always have your cross hairs hanging at around head level. If you have quality map awareness you can place yourself in solid sniper lanes and people (usually with shotguns) will funnel into your lane of sniping death :) Keeping your cross hairs at head level is what allows for close quarters sniping. Also using a sniper with snapshot helps for these close quarter engagements. Goodluck guardian!

        • But seriously I wouldn't listen to half these comments. Try to follow their head with your reticle and you will get a lot better. Also try a mid sensitivity as it will be a lot easier to place those shots without over moving

          • If you're in a match with blink shotgun and close range sniping and you're not 100% comfortable, don't snipe. Find opportunities to learn on bigger maps in Combined Arms.

          • Get an icebreaker and learn to aim for headshots in pve. Then little by little use it more on pvp on maps such as pantheon. At least that's what I did

          • Lol I like how everyone was bitching at me for using shotguns and now that I practiced a lot with sniper I am quickscoping like in cod, its all about practice, I myself started so bad now I can just quickscope in seconds.

                • It's extremely hard in regular crucible, but the best way to practice is in the smaller gamemodes like salvage, trials, elimination, and skirmish.

                • This sounds scrubby, but first practice with a sniper with high aim assist, such as Icebreaker, Shadow of Veils, or Her Benevolence. Hopefully after a while you'll get the hang of it and can move on to the others.

                  • If you shotgun, you probably run a higher sensitivity, like around 6-8. That needs to change if you want to snipe, as the optimal range is 4-6. I've seen people advise that you run a low impact, high RoF sniper. I disagree. Get your self a Her Benevolence from PoE and reroll it for Hidden Hand, Shortgaze, and some stability upgrade. Using a higher impact rifle will make you take more importance in aiming for the head, and is less forgiving then something like Praedyth's Revenge. When it rolls around again, do Combined Arms. Don't even play Trials that week, or do bounties for other modes like Rumble or Clash. Just play CA religiously. This will give you a break from constant shotguns, and slowly teach you to counter most likely your greatest threat; another sniper. At first, play passively; don't be a hero. Play support, like you should as a sniper. As you get more comfortable with your skill, you can learn to play a bit more aggressively. Learn to use your primary. If you tag a guy close range with your sniper, don't waste the next 3 or 4 shots in your mag trying to kill him. Find cover, switch to your primary, pop out the other side, and get your kill. You don't need to be flashy while you learn, you need to be safe. Lastly, these are some physical things. Keep you scope trained at head level, and practice keeping your scope at 'standard' head level at different elevations. This will help with quick scoping for some, but just fast firing for most. Don't let tilt affect you. As a sniper, tilt, or negative emotions that impair your decision making, is very prevalent. You need to play with a positive attitude, and play with positive people. Remember, you're here to have fun, play like it. Don't let the meta get to you. Currently, some snipers, or rather their perks, are under scrutiny. You've probably heard of Final Round, a perk that allows the last bullet in the mag to essentially one-shot a target, and its negative effect on the community. If you have one, especially on a sniper with a low mag size, like Efrideet's Spear's size of 3, simply don't exploit it. Or if you think you will, just don't use it. Simple as that.

                    • I think it's one of the easiest games to snipe in, depending on which perks you have the sensitivity is lowered a lot when you scope, that didn't happen in halo

                      • Just practice, it's a slightly different feel from other console fps games. Side note: if a sniper bullet to the chest isn't a one shot, a shotgun blast shouldn't be either.

                        • For me it's all about the scope and swipe as well as understanding map flow. If you can control where people are coming to you sniping is very effective. It's really baiting people into doing dumb things so you can shoot them in the head
