Should exotic primaries have elemental damage?

Some like bad juju, for example, could do void. Hard light should definitely be arc. I know about only raid primaries, but they're (mostly) legendaries. No time to explain should also be arc, considering it will be an exotic stranger's rifle. SUROS would be solar, TLW would be kinetic, considering its auto already and it looks and feels like a revolver, and thorn would be void. Red death can be solar (red theme) Of course not all can be elemental, but some like hard light should be elemental. The bullets ARE arc. Bump if you agree! EDIT: okay, no time to explain is arc. Thanks all for notifying me. EDIT 2: one idea I had today: go to the speaker with etheric light, motes and coins and buy an infusion from him, with a random element. Would have to be 200 crucible marks though. NM-solar DO-void FWC-arc EDIT 4: xür, xûr's relative, appeared! EDIT 5: oryx appeared! EDIT 6: n888 has a great idea. For those too lazy to read it all, he says that exotics should have a chance at being elemental. Eg: MIDA multi-tool has a chance to be primarily solar at 50%, but it could have a 40% chance to drop as arc, and 10% as void, increasing the incentive to sought out these weapons in their respective elements. EDIT 7: northbot(?) appeared!

  • What I would like to see is a system where guns you find have empty slots for perks and elemental damage. You would find perks as drops throughout the game, with perhaps more desirable perks less likely to drop in lower level content and more likely in high level content. You would go to the gunsmith to place those perks and they would be permanent. The only downside is this would require another inventory bank, but maybe it could be handled the way the emblem and shader system is going to be reworked. Maybe all your perks are stored with the gunsmith? Exotic guns that have unique perks would keep those perks in the appropriate slot, of course. But they would also have an empty slot for elemental damage, as would legendary weapons. These elemental perks would of course only drop from raids and such. Now, this is just a rough concept, and more details would need to worked out. No doubt some purists would hate this idea, but I think this would give many of us who are hoping for more variety a chance to create our own unique loadouts.

  • Saw n888's post down below. Was just thinking it would b fine if xur's versions of the weapons remained kinetic. That way the elemental ones would b special and it would prevent people from complaining about xur. Just for the record, I like it when xur comes around with something good for new people. Random drops would always be an element as in his second point. This would meet n888's initial ideas somewhere in the middle. Xur brings that exotic you've been waiting for u get a base version but if ur lucky enough to get it randomly it is elemental. Still only applies to current non-elemental primaries.

    This could work really well with the gun smith post taken king; making an elemental infusion a high ranking item only applicable to legendarjes and exotics. Obviously this could use some refinement and if anyone has some ideas as to how it might work let me know.

    It would be cool if each player would have the ability to apply a burn to one exotic primary using some material you could only get once. I would apply arc burn to my hawkmoon. It would be dropped from a really hard activity though

  • Having an element doesn't necessarily mean it's a good weapon. I think thorn, red death and bad juju are good weapons now. Would it be nice if they had elements? Yes but I don't think it's necessary.

  • Only if it's part of the exotics legend! If they think up and make up lore as to why it use void or solar...sure others wise it doesn't matter

It could be argued that these two should be switched. ) Monte carlo:void I guess cuz drains life from the enemy to give you abilities? Thorn:void Thr last word:solar Hawkmoon: arc Bad juju:void Red death:arc MIDA multitool:solar. Three choices for each element.

  • I believe that exotics should carry a little 'boost' when firing on shielded enemies, say 33% of the elemental damage.

        • Why does everyone associate "burn" with having an element. A "burn" is when that element does increased damage from all sources. A SOLAR weapon deals increased damage when SOLAR BURN is active.

        • The vex and the necrochasm are elemental allready. And I'm pretty sure at one time in developpement other exotics were elemental too. Remember seeing somewhere bad juju with void, and was very disapointed when i got a kinetic one from my very first exotic bounty. It was the early days of the game, not every info was available and reliable. After there is the problems of rewards : elemental primaies are the rewards for doing the hardest content (well when said content is released of course....... both actual raids are fairly easy now). What rewards would you get if you can have custom made elemental primaries elsewhere ? And a last thing, maybe elemental primaries will come with the new foundries. Really hope so.

              I have had this idea in numerous threads, and I should really copy and paste it at this point lol. [spoiler]Disclaimer: Percentages and elements are used as placeholders.[/spoiler] What happens, if exotic primaties had a [i]chance[/i] to have an elemental burn on it. But instead of a flat out, even chance for it to happen, a certain element is [i]skewed in favour of[/i] a certain exotic. Lets use Mida and Hawkmoon as examples. I have two ideas for this. [b]Idea 1: Kinetic damage is favoured.[/b] Mida has a 50% chance to be kinetic. Mida has a 30% chance to be solar. Mida has a 15% chance to be void. Mida has a 5% chance to be arc. That means your arc Mida will be truly special, and every one else has a common, kinetic one. Hawkmoon has a 50% chance to be kinetic. Hawkmoon has a 30% chance to be arc. Hawkmoon has a 15% chance to be solar. Hawkmoon has a 5% chance to be void. As you can see, Kinetic damage prevails, and certain elements have a higher chance to appear on different exotics. [b]Idea 2: No kinetic damage whatsoever.[/b] [spoiler]Just gonna use Mida.[/spoiler] Mida has an 80% chance to be solar. Mida has a 15% chance to be void. Mida has a 5% chance to be arc. Solar is the dominant element. Mida is mire than likely to be solar. Edit: [b]My Xûr dilemma.[/b] You can buy the weapons off of Xûr, but as soon as you buy it, it has those chances to be an element as outlined above.
