@Bungie Devs: Ideas for improving EXISTING team finding options.

Okay Bungie, for the time-being endgame grouping is staying the same as it's been up until now. While we have a thread going with ways to hopefully implement in-game options in the future (https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/146352404/0/0), in the meantime I think you can at least make the existing options more functionable. Let’s start with the app recruiting. It's not good. Currently if I decide I want to use your app to find a group to do a raid on 360 and I go to the RAID tab, the top Xbox 360 raid thread is
*XBOX 360* PRISON OF ELDERS + TRIALS OF OSIRIS TEAM FINDER
Followed by
Xbox 360 -[Official]- Team Finder - Raids, Trials, PoE, Weekly and Nightfall
At least that one actually lists raids... Not that many in the thread are really looking to run a raid. It's 99% looking to go flawless in ToO. Yeah there's a Crota raid, but if you’re a squeaker you're not getting in ("no kids") and a VoG popped up that you may or may not get into, but the point is that it's about as unorganized as it gets. Okay, you could post your own thread looking for more, but how long until it's buried by the 5K comment posts filled with the looking to go flawless crowd? So the first thing I would suggest you do is further breakdown the categories in those threads and maybe even go so far as to make sticky threads for each event/system and disable posts outside those threads. Category: Raids Sub category: Xbox Sticky Threads: Xbox One Crota Xbox One HM Crota Xbox One VoG Xbox One HM VoG Xbox 360 Crota Xbox 360 HM Crota Xbox 360 VoG Xbox 360 HM VoG Subcategory Playstation Sticky threads: PS4 Crota PS4 HM Crota PS4 VoG PS4 HM Vog PS3 Crota PS3 HM Crota PS3 VoG PS3 HM Vog Is it more work for you to put up more categories, subcategories? Sure, but it's also more streamlined and easy for those who aren't "LEVEL 34, MUST HAVE GONE FLAWLESS AT LEAST 5 TIMES AND HAVE THORN" to get on and use without taking one look and saying screw it. The heroics tab is 90% PoE. The Crucible tab is pretty much 100% ToO. So basically if you want to run sh*t that isn't PoE/ToO and you're not a rock star, don't use your app. I actually tried using it to find just a full team of 6 to play normal Control with a couple weeks back. Can you guess how that went? So in review. You have an app, you have a recruitment section and you need to blow it up and start over. Okay, let’s move on to LFG sites. Currently the 2 main players are destinylfg.com and destinylfg.net. They're both essentially the same, though the interfaces do vary slightly and they're both the product of an amazing community that stepped up and filled a void that existed from there being literally no ways to group when this game launched (for all the people that want to "forget", there wasn't even a recruitment tab on the forums at launch, everyone were flooding #community and boy were they pissed...) This is probably not going to be a popular suggestion with diehard fans of those sites, but I'm going to propose you do one of 2 things. 1) Implement that functionality directly into Bungie.net. You made a point of telling us you are nerfing Gjallarhorn because you didn't like how people were excluded on those sites, but you gave up the right to moderate how people group when you left it to the community to create those sites. If you want to control the quality and fairness of the experience, you need to be the ones running it. And let's face it, you have way more resources and can greatly improve the quality of those experiences. They're not bad, but they aren't perfect either. I would suggest having pages specifically for each system and then breaking it down by activity. I would also include some functionality to reply to people in-game directly from the web site (either with typed or pre-scripted messages or with invites or requests for invites). 2) I would suggest if you don't want to build it into your site, that you buy out the current community sites and take direct control of them. So in review. Destiny shipped with nothing to group, the community built nice sites for you, but this all needs to be centralized and integrated into Bungie.net. If we're going to have to leave the game to play it, at least let us have all our resources in one place. As always, thank you for your time and if any of you Guardians have better ideas, I always love reading them so let me know what you think. I have nothing against the LFG sites or those that run them and I think they're awesome people for what they've done, but as I just believe it's time Bungie start running their own game. EDIT: I almost completely forgot the entire reason I sat down to post in the first place. Seeing as for the time being we are status quo, I want to suggest that you STRONGLY consider a way to prevent trolling through LFG sites. I saw yet another post tonight about a Guardian being kicked by a LFG host on PoE when they got to the rewards and this was very prevalent in raids as well with people being kicked at the boss. My suggestion is that Kick functionality at least be disabled once a fight has started and (if it isn't a wipe) remain disabled for at least 2-3 minutes past the rewards dropping. Hosts should never be able to kick someone and prevent them getting a reward. Thank you, Sols

    • BUmp and to add in my weekend experience. Got into a game with 2 randoms, not friend completely random people who have seen my begging letters on the ol' lfg. We eventually jumped to VoG (with 5 sometimes 6 people) NO ONE spoke , at all EVER - Not even to intro and 100% not at all during the raid. We wiped at gorgans a few times, and then again at atheon and then after an hour or so, it was done! I Ifnally got my 'chievo for completing a raid and well lots of shards. All with completelt random people whom i never spoke to, or as you anti-MM guys call it ------'IMPOSSIBLE'--------- I really really rewally fail to see how MM would be any different. Fir christ sakes whiel trying croat afterwards you coudl watch everyone get the mechanics. Thew sword/bridge was great to do like this one guy figuring it out and then so dies the next and so on and so on until we all crossed. ya know all the impossible things you cant do with randoms , that i just did with randoms without ever talking to anyone.

    • I like this idea. It's a simple and functional solution to the problem. Here's an idea I had earlier about potentially fixing this problem. The Tower now has the kiosk over by Eva Levante. Why not make the kiosk an in-game recruitment tool? Imagine opening the kiosk and there's a menu to choose from: VoG HM VoG CE HM CE PoE 32 PoE 34 PoE 35 ToO You just click submit for whichever activity you're attempting to do and anyone on your console sees your name and can inspect your guardian. The kiosk only shows Guardians on the console they submitted on, that way there are no invites sent to someone on PS4 from XB1. Next to every guardian's GT or PSN is a game invite, invite to chat/party and inspect. I feel like this idea is essentially the same as your idea, just taking the out-of-game component away. Bungie can moderate this way and if you run into problems with being kicked prior to a rewards drop, send a report into Bungie so they can ban or temporarily restrict the account.

Don't forget the Destiny 100 - I use this rather than a clan (in fact we've started a clan based off our 100 group but never use it other than to have the clan name on our emblems). I would still be a solo gamer but for this site. Surely incorporation of something like this INTO the clan systems would be beneficial and if this ties into the game, all the better - Imagine having six players signed up for a game and just having to select one 'invite' button. Sure there's more functionality others need (quick lfg, matchmaking) but this would be a MASSIVE step in moving the multiplayer aspect forwards and would keep people playing. At this stage I play as much for the fun of mucking about with friends I met on the 100 as for grinding for gear. Surely the designers of this site could be brought on board - they're clearly passionate about getting people playing together and deserve some real recognition for their efforts. On another note - I've never been kicked pre-rewards as some people report but that's disgusting and should be an immediate ban and stripping of rewards. What's wrong with those people?

          • This is a good idea, but one Bungie should have made months ago. While I don't think endgame matchmaking will bring the desired results everyone is expecting, Bungie has totally neglected it's community in this regards. Why would you ship a game with no endgame matchmaking and no way to do it with other Guardians? It's maddening. I hope Bungie implements endgame matchmaking to please the masses and manages the LFG sites. Switching up the #recruitment would be good too although I think getting a group through that means isn't the best method. I know destinylfg.com works fine for me. Usually gets me a group within two minutes. But even so, I would like Bungie to manage it rather than whoever does it now since its for their game. It's slightly frustrating that Bungie won't make an effort to make getting a group easier. Its not blatantly obvious to newcomers how to get in a group to do these endgame activities and when they do find out about the sites, they likely aren't a "34 with a max grimoire and Gjallarhorn". I just hope Bungie does something with regards to their endgame LFG system.

                  • So, I can officially say that today I've finally done the vault of glass and Crotas end. I ended up using the LFG forum on this site, however, only in Crotas end did I actually join a chat party. Let me clarify that.... No one in group used chat at all for VOG and I never spoke one word to anyone about how to do it. I'd never done vault of glass before today and I successfully completed the raid in about 2 hours with a group who had absolutely no contact with each other. And above that, I was the active relic operator on Atheon for most of the fight. How you ask? It's a secret.
google
So what does this tell me? It tells me we were completely right the whole time. Raids don't need chat to be completed. They may require organized groups when they first come out, but after a while, the videos on YouTube tell it all. I love being able to prove Bungie wrong. I still would be happy with an in game LFG or recruitment system. Copy and paste this into your next post about in game LFG and mm.

                      • Bump Yep, this would be amazing. As it is now, I can barely find anything on the forums, there's no in-game matchmaking or LFG, and our pleas for such a system seem to fall on deaf ears. So while this solution would be the worst solution regarding LFR and matchmaking, it's probably the one that Bungie would be most likely to implement.

                        • I was thinking there should be 1st Person as an option while exploring Social Areas. I think it would be a great addition to the game. Please vote. I want this to be known. I honestly don't see how in any way this affects the game negatively and should be implemented in TTK. Optional 1st Person( the same view you get when starting the game) while in the Tower,Reef and Lighthouse, etc. Can you please make sure that you add 1st Person in TTK for all social areas as an option in the settings. It is a really immersive point of view and would be great for destiny's social areas like the tower, reef and lighthouse. Please consider this. http://imgur.com/mphh9AJ http://imgur.com/AUOoDCj http://imgur.com/nnrm1TO

                          • Not needed. If you don't have friends to play with you, then that's your own personal issues. And if they're not on when you want to do something, then wait. And if you can't get together to complete an activity due to conflicting schedules then don't worry about playing the game. That's how it was back in the day, you are just constantly asking to become spoiled. As Bungie said themselves, putting together your own team is part of the raid experience, if you fail to see that, then you aren't truly living up to what is there to be offered.

                            • I've always thought that actually enabling communication in this game could cause problems for them in terms of all the ten year olds who get to play for 45 minutes after they finish their homework. All the shittiness would then be hosted and controlled by them and they would probably not be able to sell the game to ten year olds anymore. As it stands now they can just say "well ya know, that's the Internet for ya..."

I like the sub category idea. It should have been that way from the start. It would be so much more organized and, of course, easier and faster to find what you want. As it is, you have to sift through a bunch of irrelevant stuff to find people that want to do the same activity on the same platform. It doesn't take much effort to add sub categories to a forum. It could be done several ways too. Just a couple simple examples to go along with yours.
Playstation 4 - Raids - Prison of Elders - Trials of Osiris - Heroics - Other Playstation 3 - Raids - Prison of Elders - Trials of Osiris - Heroics - Other Xbox One - Raids - Prison of Elders - Trials of Osiris - Heroics - Other Xbox 360 - Raids - Prison of Elders - Trials of Osiris - Heroics - Other

Raids - Ps4 - Ps3 - Xbox One - Xbox 360 Prison of Elders - Ps4 - Ps3 - Xbox One - Xbox 360 Trials of Osiris - Ps4 - Ps3 - Xbox One - Xbox 360 Heroics - Ps4 - Ps3 - Xbox One - Xbox 360 Other - Ps4 - Ps3 - Xbox One - Xbox 360
Or even a little more complex.
Console - Raids ---- VoG ---- VoG Hard ---- Crota ---- Crota Hard - Prison of Elders ---- 32 ---- 34 ---- 35 - Trials of Osiris ---- Flawless ---- Casual - Heroics ---- Weekly ---- Daily ---- Nightfall - Clans and Groups ---- Can make new threads/topics here - Other ---- Can make new threads/topics here ** I think this would be ideal **
As for people getting kicked before rewards - That is just ridiculous. That's a major issue. It's completely unacceptable to let that happen. If we are forced to make or join our own groups we should definitely get some kind of immunity. Nobody wants to spend their time on an activity just to get robbed of their rewards. Bungie really needs to address this somehow. In raids - Once a fight starts or a restricted spawn area is entered kicking should be disabled until there is a wipe or a checkpoint is reached. If the group does wipe then kicking is enabled until the fight is initiated again. If someone gets kicked before it starts again it's not a huge deal, because they will still have the checkpoint or they didn't even get far enough to get one. In PoE - I think that kicking should be completely disabled after a single round is completed. That or checkpoints should be added and kicking disabled from the time a round starts until there is a wipe or the round is completed and the checkpoint is reached. If the final round is completed then kicking remains disabled for the remainder of the activity so that rewards can be collected. In ToO - Kicking should be completely disabled while in a match. In strikes - I'm not sure how I would address this one. I'll give it more thought.

                                • Bump. The app. Why can I not simply click on a thread, go to that persons profile, and message them on their preferred console network? Be it xbox live or psn. Lfg has this functionality built right into their website. Everyone who uses the bungie app has to have a console account and have them linked. So why is this feature not found on the app or the website?

                                  • What you suggest sounds more feasible. I can imagine the setup: Recruitment > console > game type It's a structured approach, one that involves more menus, but I'd rather spend a few seconds in menus, than several minutes scrounging through groups and recruitment posts, just to find 35 PoE. I disagree with buying out the lfg sites, I just don't think it's necessary. Although, donations from Bungie to those sites to keep them going would be a generous show of appreciation.
