Since Xur sold the Ghorn today, Bungie's reasoning for its planned nerf is now no longer an issue.
Their words:
"...What we did not intend, and what we unfortunately saw, was groups gating participation based on whether or not players had it. Gjallarhorn was so strong that for many people it had become the only answer to getting through tough encounters, and therefore they were less willing to spend time with other players that didn’t have it.
We strive for Destiny to be a place where a single weapon or strategy does not dictate how, or with whom, you spend your time. In the new world Gjallarhorn is still worthy of its legacy as an exotic Heavy Weapon, but we hope it promotes inclusive behavior rather than exclusivity."
Well if that's true, don't nerf Gjallarhorn.
Unfortunately, I'll bet it's still getting a nerf because this reason they gave is BS. If so many players were "gating participation" then SOMEONE out there in the community would have created a non-Gally requirement group for end game content.
Truth is Bungie will always look to make favored guns obsolete as they prep the next generation of weapons to roll out. Not by making better ones. Nah. But by watering down our favorites.

1 ReplyThe real reason why they are nerfing the Gjallahorn is because of its massive damage to bosses and how quickly we can complete strikes, raids, and PoE Skolas. The faster we complete things the less time we spend playing Destiny. Bungie needs us to play a certain amount of time on their game for business purposes. They nerfing the Gjallahorn to make us spend more time playing Destiny than other games

2 RepliesThat's not the only reason. Deej said in an interview with ign last week that the team didnt want a single gun to be the primary choice for every encounter. That's gallys description right there.

If this happens, man... you deserve a delicious cookie

Thr hidden message has to be "to promote new exotics, we've nerfed current ones". That's the only way it makes sense as other exotics have also been nerfed.
