If you were available 30 seconds ago to start the strike, there's no excuse to be inactive when the strike starts. If life comes up in the 30 second load time; leave the game. Leave an open slot for someone else who actually wants to play. You can always find another strike in a minute or two when you're finished with whatever was taking you from the game. Bungie should auto boot any player who hasn't moved in 3 minutes, or any player who is still in the LZ of a strike aimlessly killing adds to make it look like they are contributing, they get 3 as well one the rest of the team is detected further on in the strike.
