I have done a little research and found nothing to back up this claim, however: a friend of mine who is generally very well informed on all things gaming told me that in the Taken King, the older weapons we all know and love will not be upgradable to the new damage levels and one report seemed to suggest that they would not be available at all. This does not make sense to me but stranger things have happened.
Does anyone have any information regarding this?
Thanks in advance.

5 RepliesHere's a positive thought to give us hope. It's entirely possible that Destiny will have 2 year cycles. The Taken King will probably be Destiny 1.5. It's a bigger DLC than the previous 2, but still not a full release. I don't know why people are thinking we won't be allowed to upgrade our weapons again. For some people, the Taken King will be their first experience with Destiny. They'll be wanting to go through the Vault of Glass and Crota's End. Surely those weapons won't be obsolete the moment they get them. All the note for ascending says is that it upgrades your weapons to the year one max. That's pretty clear. It doesn't say it upgrades them to their max or final value. The next 2 DLCs after TTK will focus on the Cabal and Vex. Dark Below is Hive, HoW is Fallen, TTK is just a big one year update, then there will be one for Cabal, and one for Vex. Then probably Destiny 2.0 September 2016. I have a feeling that our legendary and exotic weapons will be relevant until at least 2.0. At the very least our exotics should be. Xbox users will just be getting Hawkmoon in September. Do you think that our Hawkmoons will be stuck at 365 so that we never get to experience them at the current max attack? In my opinion, no signs point to us not being able to upgrade again.
