I was listening to this song this other day and it hit a certain part and I thought: wow, that sure does sound a lot like the H3 theme song. Maybe TOO much like the H3 theme song. I'm pretty sure that this song came out before Bungie had the idea of Halo and all of that good stuff.
I honestly think that Bungie stole the idea for the song, but that's just me.
Fast forward to about 1:40 and behold!

Edit- Seriously, stop posting just to talk trash about the band and how much you think they suck, it doesn't make you cool or any better than anybody else. It is your own opinion whether or not you like the band or song, and your opinion isn't any more correct than anybody else's.

That's because this thread is stupid, insulting, and full of ignorance, starting with your post. Locked, and not because Ciraxos is right. Because he's not, and should learn more about composition the next time he starts accusing people of having no integrity. No, its locked because even the people trying to disagree with Ciraxos are saying things that are just wrong or have pieces of truth horribly twisted into something else (like the Incubus reference).
Posted by: Ciraxos It still surprises me that nobody that works for the company wants to say anything....

Posted by: Tazjew Incubus did the halo 2 theme sorry for the dbl post
No, they didn't. That "Follow" song is played when you are following the Heretic Leader in the Banshee the first time. The Halo 2 theme is the Halo Theme Mjolnir Mix and the guitars are done by Steve Vai, not Incubus.
Posted by: Ciraxos Somebody messaged me and said that they also took it from this. WTF Bungie? Play the beginning of that song and then the part from Death and there you have it, the backbone of the Halo theme song.
-_-
-
Posted by: HaVoK SuKz BaWlZ One little 5 second riff? ...
Yea... just because it happened to use a few same chords doesn't mean they stole it. There are THOUSANDS of songs out there, there are bound to be some similarities between songs.
-
Sounds similar. Neat!
-
I'm suprised this hasn't been closed yet, it's a complete waste of everybody's time and they're trying to get the company sued that made the greatest game ever.

Incubus did the halo 2 theme sorry for the dbl post [Edited on 03.20.2009 12:16 PM PDT]

lmao i was in a metal band once, but its pretty black and white music especially for a bassist. So now i play funk-metal. oh and buckethead is some great halo music, it always makes for some intense battles
-
It still surprises me that nobody that works for the company wants to say anything....
-
How about this they paid a bunch of people who can play an instrument and they all thought of something and then one guy had thought of something that everyone liked and they played it as the Halo 3 theme song stupid if anyone agrees with me thx =)
-
That don't mean Bungie stole it.
-
Posted by: ImTriForceGuy Marty steal music from a death metal band??? Inconceivable!!!!!!!
who would steal music from a death metal band? nobody listens to that crap. steal good music. like polka.

Chuck Schuldiner is a Metal God! I can't believe that "metal" fans could actually call this mindless noise. I honestly can't hear too much of a resemblence anyway. Seriously though, if you guys want to hear a bunch of mindless noise, check out this talented new metal act! *chuckle* See You Next Tuesday I'm sorry you had to see that. I apologize with this video (that is generally acceptable by all non-elitists): Metallica at their finest. The first few seconds are NSFW with about 3 F-bombs.

i c no resemblance.
Posted by: HaVoK SuKz BaWlZ One little 5 second riff? ...
Song can sound similar heck look at girl talk (the mashup DJ) all he uses is other people's stuff and sounds really awesome and hes not breaking any laws! Seriously i mean i did a little diddy on my sweet keyboard and it sounded like "blue monday"! No laws were broken!

Just to clear sometihng up to all you "smart people"...Bungie didn't write the music for Halo. Martin O' Donnel did. And when Halo 2 came around, he got help from someone else, who's name excapes me...but still. Bungie didn't write it; Martin O Donnel did. Duh
Posted by: MADMAN Redux It's missing the tail end, and the timing is very different. Also, the chugging is different. The Halo 3 song has a triplet, whereas this riff does not. The Death riff is very generic. It's like saying someone ripped off a I-IV-V chord progression. If you could make a case for that, a ton of punk and rock bands would be destroyed. Good find, but if you look hard enough, you'll find A LOT of similarities between A LOT of musical things. And for the record, Death is a staple of modern metal. It's music is about 10 years before its time. Some would call it visionary. And it isn't really a band. One guy played all the instruments and sang, I believe. He's an amazing musician.
I like you.
-
Posted by: Skaterkyd That wasn't even good metal, thats what normal people call GARBAGE.
Even if you don't like it, you would have to be an idiot to like metal and not appreciate Death... without them Death Metal would not be the same as it is today.
-
That does sound like it. woo

Busted. too bad that yelling ruins everything. Does anyone really like screaming music? check out Brother Ali and aesop rock, they show you can speak with emotion and the lyrics dont have written in CAPS!
-
Posted by: Paintbaler117 since the song sounds similar and people are saying it hurts there ears that means you hate the halo theme song wich means you hate marty wich means you hate bungie
Sorry, but the transitive property doesn't work this way.
-
Posted by: Kapura If you have the Halo 2 OST, halfway through the 4th Movement of the Odyssey is essentially Pink Floyd's On the Run off of Dark Side of the Moon.
Thats because Incubus plays that song and they put in a tag of Pink Floyd

I think stating Bungie stole something is a bit harsh... im pretty sure with all music there is a thing called 'rights' and everything would have been checked out and in order... the music would have been provided to them for selection - not anything bungie sat and recorded...
