I run into afk/unhelpful players constantly in strikes too so I know the feeling.
On a side note though I have gotten 3 hopscotch pilgrims from doing lvl28 PoE while working on an elder cipher. Not from the chest, just the reward from finishing.
Just putting it out there so maybe you have another option.

ThargorDraconis, do you only get rewarded once per character, per week for the 28 PoE?

Prison of Elders (Level 28) awards the player with House of Judgement reputation, Engram, 6 Vanguard Marks and 25Vanguard Reputation upon completion. You also have a chance of obtaining Queen's Wrath Weapons but no chance of gettingFallen-themed weapons or armor. Players can obtain additional rewards from small and large chests. Challenge Mode Rewards have weekly reset: You get the rewards every time you do 28. I always open the small chests at the end but not the big chest.
