I feel like Bungie has the current setup right. Matchmaking for the easiest version of endgame content, and requiring premade groups for higher-end content. WoW does this, and it works well.
Destiny's problem is that there is absolutely no in-game way to find people to play with beyond randomly messaging people sitting AFK in the Tower, and it boggles my mind why Bungie did this. No chat on a console MMO is understandable, but why on God's green Earth is there no in-game clan support? Why isn't there a tool for finding Guardians for raids or Trials? If you want to do ANY of that, you have to leave the game and go to a separate website.
"Stupid" is the kindest way for me to describe the reasoning behind this design decision. You shouldn't have to leave your game in order to play your game. Endgame content, Trials, even reading the damn Grimoire requires you to put down your controller for a while in order to use a website.
Truly one of life's greatest mysteries.
I have to agree with this(a social area chat system), wtf is the point of a social area if we cant talk to each other???
I love this solution i see the argument for matchmaking but this would be a comfortable medium for me, and im sure a plethora of others
