Let's talk about fusion rifles (Mature discussions only)

(Before I begin any numbers you see me use are theoretical and vex and queenbreakers are excluded from this) First let's discuss what fusion rifles are. Fusion rifles are secondary weapons that are suppose to be an instant kill or close to an instant kill at short to mid ranges. Their range is suppose to be greater than that of a shotgun. The down side to these weapons are that they have a charge up rate. The charge up rate is when we see the problem. All primaries have a ttk that has a max (hitting all precision) and least (all body shots) let's say that I have an auto rifle with a max ttk of .67 seconds and a least ttk of 1.78 seconds. In order for a fusion rifle to be balanced the charge rate would have to be between the max and least ttk so that I could outgun said fusion rifle if I had good aim but it would outgun me if I was hitting mostly body shots. The formula would look like this (charge rate = max ttk + least ttk *divided by* 2) The problem is not all weapons have the same ttk. So say I run the formula with one gun and it says the charge rate should be .98 seconds. If I run the formula again with a different weapon it might say that the charge rate should be 1.28 seconds. How do I decided which charge rate to choose? If I choose the 1.28 second rate than it hurts fusion rifles, but if I choose the .98 second rate then the second gun I put through the formula will be beat almost every time by the fusion rifle. That's just with two weapons but destiny has thousands of weapons so how can you balance all fusions if every weapon has a different ttk. In closing I'm going to simplify why fusions are bad idea for a gun in one sentence. Either fusions will be op because they have a charge rate faster than the ttk or they will be useless because they have charge rate slower than the ttk. FAQ: Q: but fusions can be pre-charged around corners. A: Yes, but that has to do with player skill which can't be factored in to balancing. Also by that logic NLB is intended to get head shots which means NLB is OP because it's instant kill at any range. Q: But what about damage and range? A: To balance we are assuming that we are at the fusions affective range to instant kill. I'm really curious about what you guys think so please comment below just please don't be rude. Edit: this is not me hating fusion rifles this is me showing why fusion rifles will never be balanced.

  • Idea: buff for PVE only like they did with shotguns awhile back. I only had a few good matches before they destroyed my pocket infinity. I at least want to be able to roast mobs with it.
