4th race was the cat men. It was removed because they couldn't find a way to gracefully add the race into the story of the game.

Sorry to necro this thread, but I stumbled upon this one by looking up the cat people race, since I was looking through the "Holiday Items" kiosk (right by the emblems and shaders kiosks at the Tower), and I noticed the 'Tiger Mask' that has a quote which says: "In the Vex's time conflux I befriended a being with this striking visage. He was noble, brave, and bestial." -Fenchurch Everis This led me to wondering if this was a clue/hint that a cat person might be the next race, if they ever implement a new playable one.
