I would say yes, when I've gone on LFG for trials teammates I began making a point of looking for a 1.4+ kd from whoever I was linking up with.
At first I just picked people who said they had gone flawless, but without some number factor to ascertain skill a lot of the people I linked up with did bad.
That said, some of my favorite people to play with have sub 1.0 kds but they're so funny. And some of my high kd friends are just gloomy bastards.
My happiest moments playing destiny have been with the funny/fun people - not destroying some team.

Having fun is so key in pvp. I only have a 1.0 kd, but when I play with friends and were communicating and having fun I frequently finish top of the game with a 2.5+ kd. Thats why Im not too bothered by people ripping on my stats, I know I can do well.
