Gjallarhorn Nerf Will Increase Demand - Here's Why
So from what some of us already know Gjallarhorn is going to be nerfed. By how much? Bungie didn't specify. I assume it'll be nerfed so it's still the best Rocket Launcher in-game (in regards to raw, realistic damage output) just not by a landslide. At first it would appear this would help prevent Gjallarhorn exclusivity to Raids, Nightfalls, etcetera. But, taking this into further consideration, it would appear to do the opposite.
Think about it. For example, as of now it takes two Gjallarhorn shots from (a) Level 34 Guardian(s) to take out Crota's Shield on Hard Mode. Now, let's say they reduced Gjallarhorn's damage output by half. So with all this taken into account it now takes four Gjallarhorn rockets to take down Crota's Shield.
So?
More Gjallarhorns are now required to get the same benefit as before. Which means?
People will want more teamates with Gjallarhorn than ever before.
Keep in mind that my Crota example is purely hypothetical but the principle behind it remains and can be applied to anything else which requires teamwork.
In my opinion Bungie should find an alternate solution. What exactly? I'm not entirely sure. I will say however that in order to restore balance Bungie likes to knock out the top contender rather than raise the surroundings appropriately.
Update: Perhaps optional match-making can help solve this Gjallarhorn exclusivity issue (among other issues).
Even if this was true (not saying it isn't just too tired to decide), Bungie doesn't make decisions based on logic, so it wouldn't matter.
Also, I think instead of nerfing it to somehow keep it from being an lfg requirement (which again I'm not sure will be the case or not) they should have gone with optional matchmaking for all endgame activities except ToO. A lot of people are asking for it anyway.
