Explain to me how the Playstation exclusives aren't immoral
I think the Playstation exclusives are wrong.
Here's my thesis:
[b]Exclusives within a video game (that do not exist as DLC) aren't okay. If everyone pays the same amount of money for a video game, everyone should get the same video game. [/b]
Provide me with a good counter argument as to why my argument and [i]opinion[/i] aren't as good as yours.
Rule: This is all about opinions. Opinions, fundamentally, cannot be wrong.
So, imagine Walmart pays for an exclusive product. I want that product, but I regularly shop at Target. I can drive down to Walmart and buy that exclusive product.
However, say I play Playstation. I see that the Witcher 3 exclusive stuff is only on Xbox One. I want that stuff. I can't drive down to Xbox One and grab it. I have to pay 500 dollars so I can buy exclusive stuff. It doesn't make me want to switch, it makes me bitter at the gaming industries for thinking that this is okay and a good marketing strategy.
Nintendo does it all the time, and it nearly bit them in the butt. If, say Halo, is only on one console, 50% of gamers are going to have access to play it (let's skip PC here). It's going to be able to reach only 50% of a potential audience.
Did Playstation players pay more than Xbox players? No? Then, why should they be entitled to more stuff? This seems almost like internet age segregation, with one group of people being treated with priority over another, who have an equal right to priority. It almost seems... illegal, and immoral at the very least.
The only winners with exclusivity are the corporations. The developers don't win, and the gamers don't win.
[b]This is my Ultimate Metaphor:[/b]
Say you play an RPG. Four classes: Ranger, Mage, Knight, Spoony Bard. You chose Mage. (Mage and Ranger equal Microsoft). You run a long side quest, like the Gauldr amulet in Skyrim. You get to the end and you get an awesome... sword, which only Paladin's and Bards (both Sony) can use. That sword is the exclusive content. You have it (Xbox editions have the content disclocked. That is a fact), but you can't use it. You could have used it, if, hundreds of hours ago you made a different choice, but you can't make that choice now. So, you'd be angry about that. Now imagine your time was money. You spent the same amount of money/time as Paladins and Bards, and you didn't get anything. You'd be mad in the game, and you'd call it robbery in real life.
That's what the exclusives are. A sword for paladins.

I rather exclusive games then exclusive content. In reality is dosent matter what you want. Sony and Microsoft pay millions for these exclusive titles and content. Exclusive stuff makes games better, think about it like this. Xbox needed a racing game to compete with gran turismo. They made forza. without gran turismo pushing the bar and being exclusive, forza would not be as good as it is today.

2 RepliesIt's 3 strikes, 3 weapons that aren't really phenomenal, and a pvp map. That's literally nothing. Complaining to bungie isn't going to do shit. Sony paid more than Microsoft because Microsoft doesn't give two -blam!-s about destiny. They had halo. A [u]permanent[/u] console exclusive game is a LOT better [u]timed[/u] content that isn't even that great.

That being said, this is the way almost everything in a corporate society based on capitalism works. Say someone designs a really awesome doohickey for a vehicle. Let's say Ford comes along and offers to buy one million units at 1.5 times the asking price for exclusive rights to the doohickey on Ford vehicles. Now this is an awesome doohickey, it revolutionizes the way you drive. You have invested your money into Chevy. You are going to be pretty bummed that you are stuck without said doohickey for at least a year, until Chevy can get the rights to incorporate the doohickey or at least design an equivalent. If you really want the doohickey right now bad enough, you are going to have to go buy a Ford. That is a whole new vehicle compared to a gaming console. Sony saw that they could make their product a little more enticing by paying Bunjie to provide exclusive content. If Microsoft was smart, they would have done the same. Then we would be here arguing over who has the best exclusive content. Microsoft decided to be cheap so now all their players have a sad face. We are entitled to more stuff because our console manufacturer payed for us to have it. Welcome to the real world.

Sorry Valus, you must not be well versed in business. If you have something that someone is willing to pay for it, you rarely give it away for free. The exclusive content they cooked up was enough that someone was willing to pay for it (Sony). The fact that Sony was willing to pay for the exclusives is what's hysterical here. Did Sony think people were going to switch consoles for a couple of guns in a game? I don't even want to know what they shelled out for it. Sorry Sony, but that was a bad business decision. I'm pretty sure the return on that investment netted a negative #. The only exclusives that are worth it are partnerships for franchises. People may have switched consoles for the Final Fantasy or Halo series when the console wars began. I'm shocked one of them didn't go after GTA or COD in a big way.

1 ReplyWell at least it's more fair than bungie maths where $40 is the same as £40 apperently which is a different issue. I don't think they care too much if you don't get the content because it's "timed" so you'll have it eventually in their heads. I don't think it benefits them too much though unless sony is paying them enough to cover the losses that come from people who feel like they've been shafted before they buy the came so don't and the people who bought that game then with each dlc they get less so they feel less inclined to buy said dlc.
