They are completely different exploits, and you should be able to identify them by the symptoms. Also, another "exploit" I've seen people mistake for a lag switch is when a lovely skilled individual messes with their MTU settings, thus limiting their packet sizes.

Off/on/off/on/off/on That in itself does not transmit ANY data of any kind as far as its use is concerned. Either you are connected or you are not. The impact on everyone is that you are "lagging" - skipping across screen not getting hit packets...etc. The booting from orbit would be a DOS (not DDOS...seriously overkill/stupid) by definition...as its the transmission of garbage data to a given target or targets. They are not mutually inclusive...they are EXCLUSIVE to each other...they are not the same. It may be in the same tool kit or present in a software bundle but the fact remains they are two entirely separate items. One of which is highly illegal in most states in the USA btw.
