Who is your favorite boss out of the 3?
-
In terms of their lore, Skolas it's the best. In terms of their Raid, Atheon wins hands down. Finally, in terms of being a badass, Crota is a total beast. I chose Crota because he certainly knew how to make an entrance. His boss mechanic wasn't bad either, not as technical as Atheon or communicative heavy as Skolas, but good. It reminds me of the "trust fall" technique, you tell your team to open fire on him and you don't know whether or not his shields are down, but you blindly attack him anyway. Not to mention his final Oversoul when enraged, but you continue putting pressure on him to ensure victory.

To kill? Crota. Appearance? Skolas. He's a pain in the ass, but he looks cool.

Despite the utter lack of any context, Atheon is my favorite. I like that there are multiple environments in the fight, and I like that there are dynamic roles for players. I wish I understood the relevance of Atheon, though. The big problem with Atheon, though, is what we're going to continue to see moving forward. Since Bungie's tactic for increasing difficulty is to just make the boss one level higher than we can get, once we surpass them, these encounters are just going to get lamer and lamer. Come TTK, Atheon is going to be a joke. Of course, they could make a harder difficulty mode with the levels, but I'd almost prefer it if levels were almost irrelevant in boss fights. Honestly, it'd be nice if Bungie had come up with a more interesting mechanic for difficulty than levels. I like Skolas, too. I like that it's more about survival than dealing massive amounts of DPS, and I like that there's actually a lot of freedom for players to devise their own strategies. Crota is all right, but there's one way to beat him, and it's so mechanical. That swell of the music still gives me chills, though.

Oh dang haven't battled any of these. I like the ogre Hive abomination.

Should I take it as a compliment that people enjoy killing me?

For fight mechanics, Skolas. For lore, Crota. For nostalgia, Atheon. The Destiny community is obsessed with nostalgia.

I enjoy the Skolas fight. It gives me the freedom to fight how ever I want. After im done with the mines i can shotgun him in the face or waste all my Hand Cannon or Scout fifle on him granades too is just fun to have that kind of freedom. The Etheon fight is so technical and linear that after a few tries it gets boring , and if the team suck is frustrating. Crota feel empowering, just smashing the fu.cker with the sword is epic.

ATHEON is great, the others are boring, tedious and crap

Atheon is a technical fight, and therefore the most enjoyable. Teleporting team members out, one uses relic while others kill oracles, 3 left outside handle supplicants and open portal, then you all hammer Atheon. There are actually strategic challenges involved, and this makes it enjoyable. Crota is less technical than Atheon, but still requires teamwork while one member runs sword, one distracts boomer Knights, and the others concentrate fire to bring down Crota. Much less technical than Atheon, but still not a damage sponge battle. Skolas is nothing but a boring damage sponge surrounded by hundreds of lesser damage sponges. No strategy whatsoever. Just pound him with rockets until he dies while constantly running from other damage sponges. Not enjoyable at all. We need more technically engaging boss battles in Destiny.

Skolas is gay

I really enjoyed the Skolas fight over the weekend, my first. It helps that I had two really awesome teammates though.

Edited by Alcon: 7/22/2015 6:08:22 AMOh man, the nostalgia. First learning to run Vault of Glass and fight Atheon was the most fun I've ever had in this game. Edit: I think a combination of the internet and a lack of friends has made everything new seem like crap. VoG I learned as I failed with a group of friends. They all quit about the time the first DLC came out. Since then I've grouped with rando's from LFG and just smashed through everything by shutting up and following the leader.

Atheon is love. Atheon is life. It is also my favourite raid. It requires all players to be active and working throughout the whole thing. Unlike Croat. U just sit back and fire rockets at Crota and shoot into space whenever over soul comes up

Ghorn, ice breaker, then blackhammer. We are talking about things that were killed in destiny right?
-
That's right. Vote me -blam!-ers

Vote skolas bitches.

Atheon, it's the only fight to date with good mechanics and is actually a fun encounter. I still kill Skolas 3 times a week, but the fight is stupid - dismantling mines, triggering tons of enemies, and juggling poison is too much at once - it just isn't fun.

Edited by Yellow Knight: 7/21/2015 11:30:07 PMAtheon. There is more strategy and uniqueness to the fight then any other boss out there right now. While the Skolas fight as it is right now does do something a little different and strategic, it simply isn't as fun. Part of this is that you have to kill so many enemies and do so much damage to Skolas.

Hard to say. I guess Crota, because i'm one of the few people who can carry the sword.
