I've been a Gunslinger since I picked the game up as a Christmas Guardian, but the more I tackle endgame content and the more I find myself attempting to solo things like Nightfalls, the more I realize just how useless the Gunslinger seems to be in PvE compared to Bladedancer. The ability to go invisible almost at will is just such an insanely useful ability in PvE content that its almost insane to use anything BUT Bladedancer specced for invisibility in PvE. What's that, gotta go revive teammates? Take cover and go invisible and revive them with almost no risk involved. Oh, gotta go defuse some mines huh? No problem, pop your invis and just defuse it without even getting shot at
You can sneak passed crowded areas with high level enemies such as the Crota's End Abyss and Shrieker Hallway events, and then there's Strike instances such as the section with Hobgoblins and multiple Minotaurs that you encounter right before fighting the Nexus on Venus.
I dunno, I look at the Gunslinger and I see a class designed entirely for PvP with no redeeming PvE qualities outside of MAYBE Celestial Nighthawk super in certain situations. Am I missing something in PvE? I don't want to switch to Bladedancer since the class as a whole is just not my cup of tea playstyle wise, but I feel like a burden to my team if I don't just pick Bladedancer in PvE
EDIT - Lets also assume I have talent with controlling my weapons so that Gunslinger's Trance isn't that useful of a perk on anything but ARs
TLDR: Can't wait for The Taken King because damn at least then Nightstalker will be super fun and PvE viable

Comic relief

Gunslingers trance and chain of woe is a deadly combination for any competent gunman against an army of adds. On top of that you can have double tripmines/double throwing knives that replenish on precision kills. If it's not for you, then it's not for you man.. Have fun with your nightstalker/bladedancer.

Orb creation for your teammates? Its not completely useless. I use it in raids and bladedancer for nf/poe
-
I use blade for PoE and NF. Gunslinger for raids.
-
Gunslinger can put out a lot of damage easier if you run chain of woe along with gunslinger trance. Easier to shoot stuff on top of faster reloads = more damage per second.

1 ReplyIf you like Invisibility and Gunslinging, try to pick up Khepri's Sting. You'll have your cake and eat it too.

Since I use gunslinger since day one I believe its intended role could be crowd control (if you use keyhole and combustion) or for taking out very powerful majors (Celestial Nighthawk which is just great) Gunslinger is just fun for me :P
-
Even with good recoil control, the gunslinger trance may be just enough for you to run field scout instead of perfect balance for certain weapons... It's situational of course... I'm a gunslinger when I run Hunter, and have the same issues. The benefit over blade dancer is orb generation mostly... But in general, I see Hunter as a PvP class primarily. I seem to have a higher kdr in PvE with Hunter, just because I am more cautious.
-
Nah, i really don't think that way, gunslinger is way better. Blande dancer may be able to be invisible but the super is way...way...way too weak against most and even all the enemies. I even think celestial nighthawk bring the gunslinger to same strength as titan and warlock because of its unique bullet that shot more harder than one gjallarhorn. Blade dancer is ok in pve but i end up using more the gunslinger so you stay out of danger.
-
Gunslinger useless in PvE???? Lmao you hit the crack pipe like a boss today. BladeDancer isn't worth the danger unless brawler or arc burn is on. One Ultra Knight or Captain can beat you in BladeDancer if it has full health.
-
I take it you don't have Celestial Nighthawk
-
I've always used Gunslinger preferentially for PvE and Bladedancer for PvP. Trance and chain are very useful, the super is great for quickly picking off enemies without fuss, and the throwing knife is ridiculously handy in a pinch, and just generally. The Celestial Nighthawk has also made it even more viable against bosses, the Gunslinger already having the only Hunter super that can be used against them. I usually only go Bladedancer on PvE if there are objectives, inconvenient revivals, Arc burn, or Brawler.

1 ReplyWhat's the use of a Stryker titan in PvE? Or a void Warlock? I thought it was obvious each have 1 for PvE, 1 PvE.
-
Generate orbs. That's what I use it for.
-
Bladedancer was intended for close range despite being able to shoot waves you still need to be close. Gunslinger was intended as a ranged super

Edited by RingersCheckmate: 7/21/2015 4:47:46 PM-Gunfslingers trance is -blam!-ing brilliant on scout rifles of the low rate of fire high impact archetype, as they don't have a lot of stability. Anyway, I was a bladedancer once I unlocked it for about three months. Since then I've switched to gunslinger, and that's because the gunslinger class is more useful at range. I prefer keeping my Distance In PvE super or not, and I prefer actually doing damage with my super. Combustion makes it great for clearing groups of ADs, and celestial nighthawk is a boss killer. Invisibility is nice for reviving teamates, but truth is there's no teamate support. You can revive them but they probably wouldn't have died in the first place had you not been invisible and firing on the enemy yourself. The ranged melee that can instantly come back coupled with High DPS grenades (Incendiary mainly) is why I like gunslinger more than bladedancer. It's up to preference, really, but this one is one I can play without having to go invisible

Golden Gun is just a way to take down a Ultra or Major without wasting your heavy ammo
-
Celestial Nighthawk = Orbs. Also deal the most damage, 10k to any Ultra boss is indeed awesome. The downside is GS survivability is abysmal
-
Bladedancer's perks make it better for things like nightfalls and raids and PoE but what keeps bringing me back to gunslinger: two throwing knives plus instant recharge if you get precision kill. No better feeling in the world than just demolishing an entire room of dregs and vandals or thralls and acolytes with a constant stream of knives. Also trip mines are so fun to kill people with

F*ck b*tches get money

But hey, GS's are atleast generating orbs. I've never been able to wrap my head around how a GS, from range, can generate more orbs than a BD, who has to be up close and personal. Something wrong with that equation.
