Not a crazy fresh Idea.. but..
Grenade launchers..
The fact that you could have different style of bouncing or not bouncing - timed or proxy ... or even a mine launcher would fall in this class..
Lots of fun stuff to play with I think.
What do you guys think?

Grenade launchers features:
- Rate of fire that's faster then rockets - yet slower then heavy machine gun
- Range that's longer then the buffed throw distance of a standard grenade
- Ballistic trajectory due to the lower projectile flight speed. Requiring lots of "head room" to fire long distance.
- High muzzle energy with extreme report due to the weight of the projectile. Capable of knocking down foes if fired at them. Sustained fire is less accurate
- Safe Arm projectiles - that cannot explode if the launcher is within a minimum range. No friendly fire (optional) allowing close engagement.
- mid size magazine- (5-10 rounds in each mag and 30_60 in reserve.
-lower splash damage then rockets. Yet combines with impact damage on a single target.
- shotgun style reload - that takes the longest to completely fill to capacity- yet can be fired after a single round is reloaded.
Most efficiency if fired near a group of smaller targets. Or fired directly at one large target.
Or against foes that are hiding behind cover.
- able to utilize several types of projectile packages.
*contact charge (explodes when contacting a surface)
*delay charge (timed after firing)
*proximity charge (sits on the ground until approached. Or until it's lifespan is exceed.)
*seeking mine charge ( sits on the ground until approached then seeks foe if within range)
*magnetic shaped charge (extra damage to machines)
*super ball charge (keeps bouncing)
*stun grenade (for these people on the forums)
..some examples just off the top of my head. But I'm sure you can see the room we got to fun with!
THE LOOKS
Nice- clean - mechanical - space tech look. Please no hive stuff on it
Closer to a rocket launcher then a rifle.
The launch tube could slide rearward to eject the spent cartridge and appear to absorb most of the report before returning forward to chamber the next round.
[A nice deep,thunk sound for the launch and a crisp loud tink for the bounce- with some wurring for the reload mechanism

1 ReplyI would take any grenade launcher. Lobbing ordinance at enemies hiding behind cover would be a nice tackticle advantage.

And the different rounds to be fired...you could randomly draw three different types in lieu of ballistics, and each has different trajectory, flight speed, and range, within reasonable range of the particular launcher's base stats. This would be so much fun.

1 ReplySidearms were just implemented and we only have Vestian Dynasty and Dreg's Promise. IronWreath was in the E3 demo, but so far that's all. I doubt they'd add another class so soon, but with how intense the weapon designs are so far...I can't wait. If the legendaries are that hot-- imagine Raid armor/weapons and exotics.

4 RepliesI was thinking of a heavy weapon more along the lines of a flame thrower, more range than a shotgun, has a chance to burn with less DoT than thorn and warlock burns, but it lasts slightly longer. Could also have like an arc thrower that arcs lightning from enemy to enemy but does significantly less damage than most weapons, unsure about the void one though. Haven't thought that far ahead

1 ReplyEither way, special or heavy, Bungie needs to make this weapon class eventually. You see all sorts of enemies use a "grenade launcher" of some sort and it would be nice to use the same for a change. There are lots of variations that could be made. Just compare the hive boomer to a cabal soldier shooting multiple explosive grenades to your face! The amount of power and functionality could greatly vary within this weapon class (if it was special, not heavy) and would be a unique special weapon class.
