Should the Confederate battle flag be banned in the U.S.?
In my opinion, it should be removed from state property, but definitely not banned. It is a part of American culture and was a part of the many steps in history that got us to where we are. It is a part of history.

I support our First Amendment, so the flag can't be banned. But at the same time, that flag does not represent "southern pride". Nothing the Confederacy did was worthy of praise.

Yea obviously it shouldn't fly on govt property. But if people want to fly it at their house that's fine. In America you are allowed to look as dumb as you want :)
-
It seems like the flag either represents heritage and history or racism and oppression. As an African American I have met plenty of nice people who support the flag, as I live in the south. But I have also been called a n*gger by quite a few people who support the flag. Maybe it isn't the flag that's the problem; it's some of the people that support it.

No, it's freedom of speech, but just don't hang in your Capitol instead of the national symbol. It can be mistaken as a sign of rebellion
-
I'll just leave this here for all the ignorant -blam!-s
-
Let them redneck bastards have their -blam!-ing flag
-
The flag that people call the "Confederate Flag" isn't even the Confederate flag... It's the Virginia battle flag.

Edited by Slagathor: 7/20/2015 10:34:09 PMThe flag has hatred behind it. It went from "it's our heritage, you can't take that pride from us" last week, to "yeah -blam!- it, we're Nahtzis lol" this week.
-
no it shouldn't be on public builings though and its not heritage and pride you inbred hicks
-
No. Censorship is terrible.
-
In war, the loser doesn't get to fly their flag. The winner does.

Edited by Atomic: 7/22/2015 11:45:26 PMthat flag is a symbol of death and hatred it's not heritage how heck is it heritage the only thing it's heritage of is the death of over 500,000 that flag is what divides us apart and caused so many deaths I don't impose banning it but it should not be hung in a state Capitol
-
It's a part of what the south inherited... Racism. The war was literally about racism. The south was pissed about Lincoln wanting to stop slavery so boom war. Simple for you slow ones. Although the flag controversy is a blind the government is using to pass stuff behind us. We are all just morons letting things go on without our knowledge
-
My thoughts with this is that people who make it resemble whatever makes them speak the loudest. Symbolism is an internal-out scenario. People themselves decide what something means in the end. If you think it means racism, don't look at it, buy it, buy FROM it, our touch it. If you think it means heritage and such, fly it however you wish, just don't let it get everywhere to where it makes things uncomfortable. And to both sides, respect each other please. I have seen so much disrespect. The next time I see one side call the other "idiot" "stupid" or "dumb"....I just don't even know. HAVE A CONVERSATION AND LISTEN BEFORE EMOTIONS COME INTO PLAY.

The flag has only as much power as you give it
-
4th option, only ban it on government property.
-
Edited by Masque of Night: 7/22/2015 8:53:07 PMI don't believe so. I don't sport the flag myself, but I respect it from a historical standpoint. It was an emblem of a very turbulent time in American history, and I believe history should be preserved as perfectly as possible. To remember only the positive and erase the negative is a flawed way to remember past events, it paints a picture of a nation that never existed, and likely never will exist.

If people want to ban the Confederate flag for representing slavery, they may as well ban the American flag. Slavery was alive under the American flag as much as it was under the Confederate flag. Also, allowing people to fly the rebel flag also shows that our country has come a long way because we allow everyone to have the right to look like an asshole. Banning the flag is also an infringement upon freedom of speech, which has always been the pride of America.
-
That would be unconstitutional, so NO.
-
Can someone tell me what the confederate flag represents
-
It is a symbol of our past. It should be remembered and flown with pride
-
It's like having the Mexican flag being flown here in NM on a state building. It's having another countries flag (or one that now represents another country) on OUR countries buildings. I mean Mexico is a HUGE part of my states history. But that doesn't mean my government is allowed to fly it. The citizens however, can fly whatever flag they want. It's their right. The real problem I'd have with a flag like that would be if they made it bigger and higher than the US flag. That's just improper flag etiquette.

Edited by Hoggs Bison: 7/20/2015 9:45:39 PMWhat stupid Liberals don't understand about the flag is that it's just a piece of cloth, and cloth has no meaning. So there's just no reason to get butthurt over a flag for meaning anything. Also, these words are just pixels on your screen, and pixels have no meaning. So there's just no reason to believe any of these words because pixels have no meaning. Similarly, numbers, letters, spoken words, art and music of any kind, etc. have no meaning because they're just abstract things that don't mean anything. So nothing has meaning. Life has no meaning. Meaning is meaningless. We are all just imaginary constructs wandering aimlessly through a plane of despair. You cannot turn back. You cannot turn back.
