So from what some of us already know Gjallarhorn is going to be nerfed. By how much? Bungie didn't specify. I assume it'll be nerfed so it's still the best Rocket Launcher in-game (in regards to raw, realistic damage output) just not by a landslide. At first it would appear this would help prevent Gjallarhorn exclusivity to Raids, Nightfalls, etcetera. But, taking this into further consideration, it would appear to do the opposite.
Think about it. For example, as of now it takes two Gjallarhorn shots from (a) Level 34 Guardian(s) to take out Crota's Shield on Hard Mode. Now, let's say they reduced Gjallarhorn's damage output by half. So with all this taken into account it now takes four Gjallarhorn rockets to take down Crota's Shield.
So?
More Gjallarhorns are now required to get the same benefit as before. Which means?
People will want more teamates with Gjallarhorn than ever before.
Keep in mind that my Crota example is purely hypothetical but the principle behind it remains and can be applied to anything else which requires teamwork.
In my opinion Bungie should find an alternate solution. What exactly? I'm not entirely sure. I will say however that in order to restore balance Bungie likes to knock out the top contender rather than raise the surroundings appropriately.
Update: Perhaps optional match-making can help solve this Gjallarhorn exclusivity issue (among other issues).

The thing is ghorn is not necessary for any encounter. It just makes them all easier. If a fireteam wants to have nothing but ghorn that's their business. I will admit I over use it but I get tired of constantly using it so if more and more people start asking for it I'll just make my own fireteam and use whatever gun I want. I'm excited to add more guns into my rotation like hardlight, thunderlord and maybe even necrochasm(lol doubt it).

2 RepliesRaid and high level shit matchmaking is the worst idea ever. I rather never raid than raid with a bunch of retards just like every damned game I get into.

1 ReplyEdited by Jazeservedyou: 7/29/2015 9:30:45 AMThe best fix normally in an MMORPG is the buff other weapons to the level of the weapon that ought to be nerfed, and then increase the armour and/or health of the NPC's so that the buff is practically negligible. While this sounds much more tedious and pointless, it's because player mindset thinks weapons getting buffed makes them happy. A nerf tends to piss people off. Even though the result is the same the players are kept happier by thinking they got a buff. EDIT: The Gjallarhorn nerf could be much ado about nothing. The highest nerf they handed out was 30% so even a 30% nerf to the Gjallarhorn's wolfpack (It is only the wolfpack they mentioned nerfing) would do little to it's overall DPS, only people who time trial a boss or such would notice.

This^ and the fact that some will blame players that "complained" that they couldn't get in parties without a ghorn, and out of spite require ghorns for party invite worse then before... Not my opinion, I only play PvP right now, but it will happen...

1 ReplyUnless they nerf it like last word

4 RepliesAt the end of the day it's all about artificially lengthening play time.

4 RepliesFactor everyone is overlooking is the possibility of a new exotic outclassing ghorn.

3 RepliesIf Gally is continued to be required on lfg sites then I imagine bungie will nerf it as bad as they did auto rifles... Keep requiring it lol

Sure, optional matchmaking would put you in a group whether or not you have a Gjallarhorn. Now, if that group would do anything but wipe continuously is another question... The matchmaking in Destiny is designed for one thing: to quickly pair people for easy content. It simply lacks the features to pair people based on anything but light level.

1 ReplyI just duoed Crota Normal using nothing but Celestial Nighthawk to remove his shield. Neither one of us had a Gjally and didn't need one. Used Bad Juju + LDR 5001 and wrecked house!
-
1 ReplyThe people who originally only ask for gally, will still ask for gally because they are ignorant. This is solely a player issue.
-
1 ReplyWell, me and 5 mates play destiny daily and only 2 of them had gjallahorn. In the past week 1 got it from the exotic chest in the Gorgons labyrinth and another 2 of my mates got it from 28 PoE. I think gjallahorn is being found a lot more since the announcement of the incoming nerf.
-
2 RepliesSo you are saying that thousands of gally only post will become gally only post? Hmm yeah I see the difference. Plus half? I think you are going overboard with what the nerf can potentially be. Mostly likely 20% to 25% reduction is going to happen. Ghorn will still be a beast.
-
1 ReplyWell I believe their intention with all the new strike bosses and whatever is to have more mechanics based encounters, so the 'melt the bullet sponge' tactic that Gally thrives on may not be there allowing for more variety. But unless they nuke nerf is it'll still be the more powerful heavy so I don't see a massive decrease in usage unless they make some new fancy thing

1 Replythey should have nerfed the rate of fire and reload speed. That would have been better

1 ReplyIf Dragon's Breath had more velocity and tracked like the other 2 exotic rocket launchers I'd definitely use it.

1 ReplyUuugh people keep saying this but the fact is you have no evidence what so ever. This is a hunch. Gjallarhorn will probably get nerfed to the point where burning a boss isn't a viable option anymore and you'll actually have to do the encounter. Dragons breath will actually be higher damage (assuming you land the rocket) if Gjallarhorn gets nerfed that hard.
-
Or maybe people will use HoC and other rocket launchers and break their tunnel vision...

2 Replieshey dumb -blam!-. what if they actually release decent weapons this time around, making the gally obsolete?
-
5 RepliesTheir nerfing it because they need the new gjallarhorn to be part of the 40 dollar dlc and not insta murder everything

2 RepliesThis argument has been made before. I disagree. Plus who cares? Crota's a cake walk as a a 34
