Damage in VoG caps at level 30. You're actually better off running VoG set gear and being level 30/31 than anything else and being 34. There is no difference in damage output/intake between levels 30 & 34.

Actually you take less damage as a 34 because of the higher armor stat you have

Oh I see, my bad. I always allow basically anyone in my fireteam, but perhaps the people who dont are under that assumption.
