Lazy programming!
Weaken the elite so the mediocre can shine, pathetic from a billion dollar company!

The elite were the thorn, last word, and shotty scrubs? Nah they made it so that gunskill will actually matter now. So those who are actually elite will stand out because they won't be killed as much by noob shit.
-
Noobs do not carry the weapons you speak of. You have to be at least level 20 and that, by definition disqualifies you as a noob.
-
You're right, my fault, I meant scrubs with their scrub shit

My apology. I did not intend to offend you. I am so disappointed in Bungie that I lashed out at you. My apology. Athletes strive at perfection and self improvement. They run faster to cross the finish line first. This reminds me of a former figure skater, unable to win, and resorting to damaging her opponents legs to guarantee her victory. Or, biting the ear of the opponent cause you can't knock him out in the ring. Where has the value of a rising tide floating all ships gone? We now sink all elite ships so the laggards look good? They should have improved the weaker guns to the level of the strong, not butchered the strong to the level of the weak! That is my disappointment in the way they chose to implement their 'weapon balancing'. The enemy is laughing all the way to our graves, for their armor and weapons remain unaffected.
-
I understand your point, but I think they just wanted the general time to kill to be longer so that there is more gunplay and more gunskill needed to get kills. The OP guns that were being used were like athletes juicing with performance enhancing drugs. Now it's like nasser drivers all being given nearly identical cats so that the driver who is truly the best driver will win the race.
-
I agree. IMO the same result would be achieved by buffing weaker weapons to the level of the strong. That would achieve balance AND preserve PVE.
-
That's true, they could have done that for sure. I think they really just wanted to make the time to kill longer in pvp.
-
That is easily done in programming all weapons to have balance in PVP, automatically. Like Crucible: level advantages disabled -> weapon advantages disabled! The nerf was implemented bass ackwards!
-
Yeah I'm sure they could've made the changes to pvp without changing pve, the same way that some of the current changes affect pve but won't affect pvp. They did maybe go about this a little bit wrong, but from a pvp standpoint, where almost all of the whiners come from, this is going to be a refreshing change. They may have to do some work to fix the weapons for pve later on though, we will have to see if it does hinder pve.
-
I agree with you and most here. It was needed, but the implementation was inappropriate for the problem presented. There are many ways to win a race, handicapping your star athletes may give the impression that the winners look good, but, we all know it is because you made the stars look bad why they won! In the end, a very bad idea!
-
What you say makes sense, I just like that there will be more variety of guns used in pvp after this update. People can use something other than the thorn or last word and not feel like they're putting themselves at a disadvantage. You are equating the guns to the athletes, but I think it's more like the guardians are the athletes and the guns are their tools/equipment. Give everyone equipment that is relatively equal and let the most skilled win. This will cause havoc on the least skilled who were relying on badass equipment to keep up. The most skilled will truly shine and stand out from the crowd because now it is simply their skills being showcased rather than the equipment.
-
I absolutely agree with you. My referencing guns to athletes was not intended that way. Search all my prior comments and they always state: the Guardian is the weapon, the weapon is the tool. My intent is that the balancing should have been done in a different manner. By improving weaker weapons, balance is achieved and good weapons are not weakened (run faster, don't trip your competition).
-
I do agree with you about that, but a part of me is also excited for longer time to kill so that fights in pvp are more dynamic. But we'll have to wait and see how it actually plays out and how it actually feels before I can make any conclusive opinions about any of this.
-
That is really needed in PVP. Skill is not weapons, it is strategy and that was really unbalanced. Hopefully, this leads to skill improvement and not niche category exploitation.
-
Absolutely, although I'm sure there will be much continued whining by people who would rather have a gun do all the work rather than actually practicing and getting good l. But hopefully this will cause people to become more skilled and give a truly competitive nature to the crucible and especially trials

An excerpt from Bungie's internal nerf minutes: We appreciate your time, and dedication invested in our game, but have determined it is in your best interest to change your hard sought weapons because we think we should. We believe that effective weapons belie our real purpose, in fact they are unfair to the majority who do not have them. We will not make them widely available for that would not maintain their rarity, instead we will demote them to their legendary equivalents. You must like this change for it is for your own good. Difficult to obtain weapons were a mistake on our part. You see, we cannot have only a few have the most powerful, that is unfair to the masses. Instead of making these weapons freely available, we have chosen to weaken them so all of you who worked hard to get them can feel special. Firm in the knowledge that your efforts mean nothing to us for we already have your money. Error, Viper Error, scratch that. Your efforts are not ignored for you still get to keep the fancy yellow color scheme. Anyway, in the next release coming in September, your weapons will enjoy a new status. Balanced and Yellow. That is good. Very good. You will like it. It is for your own good. Trust us, we know what we are doing. Here are some charts that show you were ignoring the crappy guns for the better ones. Now look, we moved those high graphs down do the pretty lines all overlap. How pretty they are now. You like? Thought you would. By the way, you have no choice in this 'play it your way' game we made. It is my Precious and you can't have it! Golem, stop! Oops, did that slip out? Yes! Don't print it! Ok, we won't, I promise! Shit, I am damned, that is what you told the players when you said they can play their own way and you lied then. No, that was not a lie, merely a misrepresentation of the truth! What's the difference? Sounds like a lie to me. Difference is a lie makes us look bad. Misrepresenting the truth makes us look corporate. Oh, I see. That works for me. Great, now back to the lie, oops, misrepresentation: you can play it you way (as long as you use your guns our way!...
